Webflyer's Mileage Converter

This converter shows all the ways to transfer miles from one program to another and how many miles you'll end with.

Did a search first and found nothing under "converter."

excellent one, thanks.
And one more question: can I transfer miles/points to others through this "converter"?

No, the tool will tell you HOW to get the transfer you want in the most efficient way possible. But it won't do the transfer for you.

So one can get ones miles out of UA's MP program, other than taking an award! Interesting.

Yes, but you need a Diners Club card to do it.

This is pretty cool. I'm not sure I would want to try some of these 4,5,6,7 step programs.... But if I were truly desperate and had plenty of time... But doesn't desperate usually match up with minimal time?

I did notice one bug... the converter doesn't understand limits. Such as the 25k annual limit on CO->Amtrak transfers.

Actually, there is no limit on transfers from CO->Amtrak. There is, of course, a limit when trying to transfer from Amtrak to another program, which is probably the limit to which you are referring.

The whole limit thing was a tricky problem when we were designing the application. If a user was to enter a conversion of 30K miles from Continental to Midwest, for example, we didn't want to exclude the CO->Amtrak->Midwest option simply because they couldn't complete the transfer within a year, but we also wanted to somehow let the user know of the limitations. What we ended up doing was creating the "Details and Notes" link, where the user can find notes regarding any limitations/restrictions associated with a particular transfer option.

Not a perfect solution, but workable. We are continuing to look at ways to improve the usability of the tool, so maybe we will come up with something better (suggestions always welcome :p )

How about a tool which would allow you to see the various programs into which miles can be transferred from a particular program? For example, let's say that someone has a ton of Virgin Atlantic miles, and wants to know what programs those miles could be moved to. You could choose Virgin Atlantic and the number of miles, and the proposed tool would tell you all the programs into which those miles could be moved. (Even a basic tool, showing only direct transfers, would be helpful).

Such a tool would help people, for example, who are trying to decide whether to burn or transfer, and it would also help those who are thinking of moving points (such as Amex MR points) into an particular program, but want to know if those points will be "trapped" if their desired award turns out to be unavailable.
