Best Airline?
Hello all. I am looking for a place to transfer my points from Starwood Preffered Guest. I earn most of my points from outside sources (i.e. not flying) and use my miles as vacations. I am looking for a versertile carrier that has flights from Dallas/Houston to Hawaii, the coasts, and Europe. Also, whichever ones that i can maximize my miles from outside sources. Any suggestions?

Well Dallas or Houston? If you fly out of Dallas, I guess AA is your choice, Houston is CO for these two airlines have most of non-stop destinations from their respective Hubs.

I second Afang's advice, also AA will start non-stop service DFW-OGG in early January. Also AA has better worldwide alliances with One World than CO.

But but but CO was voted one of the best airlines last year, and their OnePass unlimite upgrade system is awesome until they started the EUA system http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

If you don't mind a connection, United would also be a good choice. And, UA has more seats to Hawaii from the west coast then AA or CO...

Stacycat: First of all, welcome.
The question I would ask you is why transfer your points out of SPG at all? Levaing them banked in SPG gives you the flexibility of using whichever airline you prefer, or using them for a hotel reward, whenever you want to use them. |
Great advice, dgolds. Leave the points with Starwood until you need them... then transfer them to whichever airline you need to use them on.

I guess i should have been a bit more specific. I am paying for two tickets to Hawaii, using Starpoints. I will be transfering out 60,000 starpoints, and with the 5,000 mile bonus, I will have 75,000 points in whichever account. 70,000 gets me two tickets, so I will have 5000 left over in the account. I was wandering which airline would be the best for the travel I was going to be taking (i.e. Hawaii and Europe) so I dont have to switch each time, and can have some extra points when I need them in the account. Of course my points will stay in SPG until I need them.

Based on your available points I would recommend flying CO from Houston to Hawaii in their BizElite class. Buy coach tickets and upgrade. The DC10 I flew was very comfortable. Again, this is based on the available points.
Flying to Europe you might want to consider UA in their First Suite or Lufthansa. AA requires more points than other US airlines for Biz or FC tickets. |
