Which program West Coast-HNL for less miles?
In the back of my mind, I remember reading that one or two airlines offer reward travel from the West Coast to Hawaii for less mileage than others. Just decided to fly my Bro to Hawaii to join us on a trip, and can't seem to find the info anywhere. Anyone got any recommendations?

You can get there for 20,000 Starwood Starpoints, on Hawaiian Airlines. I have the details listed on the Airline Registrations and Other Bonuses page, in both the Hawaiian Airlines and Starwood sections.

AA offers a reduced mileage award in first/business from California only. You save 20% (so 60K instead of 75K for their standard award; double that for unrestricted).

Robin I know Hilton charges 100K HHonors points from CA and NV to HI. I think the rate for the rest of the US is 160 or 170K HH points. FWIW. At a time when I could get 4 35K AA awards SJC-OGG AA, there was nothing available in the class used for Hilton Rewards. The method for using a Hilton award on AA isn't clear and some Hilton people are confused. 1. Call HHonors and tell them the award you want. They will give you a special phone number at AA to call. Do NOT call the elite desk. 2. A person at the special AA number will book the flight 3. You then call HHonors back to and give them the reservation number. After that, I don't know, since they had no more seats :) FWIW, I was able to book a Friday night outbound with a return departure 8 days later (Sat) in Mid August. The booking was done in mid June and we got 4 seats at 35K miles. |
If you don't have enough miles to fly your brother in, you might consider purchasing a ticket. Depending on when all of you end up going, prices may be cheap.

Thanks all... I think it was the AA First class award I remembered seeing, but that one won't work for us. Was looking for a way to burn some of the residual accounts (our lower balnce ones), and finally found him tickets on AA. Had considered purchasing the tickets, but since we are traveling around the December holidays, the prices were pretty high on even the wide open/odd day flights where freebies were avail.
Thanks again.... Robin |
