Attn Priceline Users

At the risk of being hammered for cross-posting, I think that it is worth mentioning here that yesterday on the Travel Bidding forum Randy made the following proposal,

"...I do have a question for many of you. FlyerTalk experiences a huge following and grows daily, nearing the 3,000,000 post mark. While I'm no expert on this bidding thing, if there is enough interest and support, what would be your thoughts on FlyerTalk launching a bidding information Web site. We could certainly harness the traffic we get as well as expand when and when necessary. This way, you can continue to enjoy your current - and i'm only hoping here.... - happiness with FlyerTalk with a new venue of information to share. You need to look no farther than Mileage Run to see how a sub-site can have some success within FlyerTalk. The Iceland thread was visiting by more than 110,000 people in one months time and i would think that many of the same crowd that loves to look in on airfare deals such as that would love to add and take away from the information about bidding for travel values.

Honestly, I would not want to take away from the members who post elsewhere, but introdcuing such a forum here may be far easier than trying to moderate the comments as noted above.

Thoughts anyone?"

The entire thread can be seen at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...6&page=1&pp=40 , Randy's comments were in post #30

I cross-posted this because I think that otherwise that thread may slip thru the cracks and not be noticed by many FTers who may otherwise be interested in it, I know that for close to 3 years I was an almost daily user of FT before I was made aware that "Travel Bidding" was a formal forum - and the only reason that I noticed at all was because of a cross-post on the AA forum by another user. Only then did I learn of mileage earning opportunities available to Priceline users like the recent promo where people are earning 1500+ AA miles per Priceline purchase.

As a very infrequent bidder, I have no problem going to BiddingForTravel and BetterBidding when I need a Priceline room somewhere. To me, those sites are most effective when a lot of people post to them. Having a 3rd site would simply mean having to check a 3rd site. I vote on leaving things as-is.

On a side note, the cultural differences between FT (would never dream of sitting in the back, over-water bungalows, etc.) and BiddingForTravel (where can I park for free and take public transit back to the gotel to save $10) can be amusing to see. Of couse, depending on what I am doing and who is paying the bill, I can find myself in both camps at different times :)

Yeah, but ...

BFT is notorious for beiing somewhat "picky" about who is even allowed to post over there, and many a FT'er has found him/herself out in the cold for no discernable reason.

A similar forum linked to FT would make it easier for me and many of the folks who post here. And the FlyerTalk philosophy imbuing everything would be a welcome addition.

I'm not strongly in either camp, but if Randy were to start up such a beast I wouldn't object at all.

Just my 2 francs worth.

I appreciate the desire to bring Randy's query in front of a larger audience.

But I think it's important not to fracture the conversation. Anyone interested in discussing the merits of the idea, please see the original thread referenced above. MilesBuzz is really not the right place for the discussion.

In other words, there's a difference between a cross-post (starting the same conversation in multiple places, which leads to fractures which are difficult to follow) and a cross-reference (saying "hey, look over there... and please continue the discussion over there").

The former is frowned upon. I suspect that in this case the latter may be useful, especially because it's bringing Randy's offer or query to the attention of more members.

Now that this mission has been accomplished, I'm going to close this thread to further discussion and encourage interested members to follow the link provided by the original poster.
