Over a Quarter Million posts.....

Well, while others were out treating, a few very loyal FTers were online posting away and tonight FlyerTalk passed the quarter-million post level (250,000 posts). It's hard to imagine another travel board on the Internet that has such uniqueness as FT. Thanks to all of you who have made this possible. Now I suppose our next goal will be to half a million posts, though I'd put all those stats aside to have the board continue with the quality of the posts it has... Again, thanks.

Thank you, Randy, for starting Flyer Talk.

Thanks for hosting this wonderful resource Randy! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Another vote of thanks for making this information exchange possible.

ffhound Nov 1, 2000 2:26 am

Just one question Randy

How many of those posts were congas!

cheers Peter

opus17 Nov 1, 2000 4:29 am

Wow. And that means, with 10,000+ posts, doc alone accounts for 4% of the total!

I'm not sure how or by whom this can be done, but it sure would be nice if some classic, "Hall of Fame" threads could be edited and made into a travel FAQ. I'm sure it would rival any published guide to travel, either in paper or on the web!

geordie6 Nov 1, 2000 4:34 am

By my math Doc, Rudi, Ozstamps and Catman alone have made more than 10% of every post in FT history!

Catman Nov 1, 2000 4:48 am

I wonder what presentage are just smiley faces and dittos?

No, I'm not knocking this achievement because a LOT of valuable information came out of this.

SOmeone suggested an archive of the classic posts? What about a book called "Flyertalk: Adventures and Misadventures in Traveling!"

I was trick or treating like a kid should be.

BlondeBomber Nov 1, 2000 5:59 am

As with any resource there is the good, bad and ugly. But I find it the most useful, interesting, engaging and sometimes controversial travel site.

What started as just a practical nuts and bolts type of involvement became a much more complex and beautiful thing (warts and all).

It has opened up my mind and led to some wonderful new friendships.

Thanks Randy and all you FTers!

doc Nov 1, 2000 6:12 am

Ditto CATMAN! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks again Randy for providing us ALL with the opportunity to contribute to such a great resource as FT and to ALL those who do! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Vulcan Nov 1, 2000 6:35 am

Thank you, Randy, for making all of this possible.

Shareholder Nov 1, 2000 6:47 am

It shows the strength of real community. While we don't always agree with one another, our commonality of purpose-- not to mention a shared love of being locked in an aluminium tube at 35K feet for hours at a time -- has created a place to come and visit with friends and adversaries each day. It has been even magnified beyond posting with the opportunity to actually meet many of those who post regularly, be it at the FAQ in Montreal, the Red Green Deux in Toronto, or at next week's Altbier in Dusseldorff (not to mention grabbing a pint or two with others as I, or they, pass through town).

Thank you to those of you who convinced Randy to launch FlyerTalk two years ago, and to our guru himself for tiring of the life of a salesman and setting up the whole House of Cards empire. And to each and every poster, whether I agree with what you write or not (or you with me).

rxziebel Nov 1, 2000 7:39 am

I concur. Thanks Randy and staff for the time and expense in making this resource possible.

Congratulations and thank you Randy, Staff and House of Miles for touching our lives. We are enriched in so many ways for your dedicated efforts and gracious hosting of FlyerTalk.

Many miles of thanks! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

When Randy started the magazine a few years ago, I was there. I remember calling the office (as he suggested) asking if any UA coupons were available. Never got lucky. Somewhere along the line, I let my subscription expire. I always read it from cover to cover. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Now, I read online.

Regards,
Dan

Randy--How can we all thank you for giving us this forum to share all this information? MANY MANY Thanks from me personally! Thanks to FlyerTalk this year alone, I 1) Went on the LatinPass trip with my wife and should pick up 500,000 miles each; 2) won a trip to S.F. from Starwood in Win the World contest, which I got early notice of here on the board; 3) picked up the new Delta Skymiles card and hope to receive the 50,000 SkyMiles bonus, which I learned about here.

What would we do without FlyerTalk???

Thanks Randy and everyone at your shop!!!

PremEx Nov 1, 2000 9:49 am

Two words account for most of the posts on FlyerTalk: Mustard Pretzels.

Thank You Randy & Crew for providing a great forum for Mileaholics (and others)!

Now, more important than the total number of posts...I'd like to know the total number of hamburgers served (Site visits)! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

ontheroad Nov 1, 2000 10:02 am

"FlyerTalk ... over a quarter million served." Would McDonald's be OK with that tagline?

Seriously, this site is great!

Mizu Nov 1, 2000 10:21 am

Thank you Randy!

At first my colleagues thought I was a travel geek.

Now they know. Thanks to the FT community for being who they are.

SCMM Nov 1, 2000 4:15 pm

Thanks Randy, and all your people.

Flyertalk has become an esential part of my daily reading.

Stewart.

As a manager in the hotel biz, this site has proven extremely valuable. Your threads are routinely viewed and shared with our management and staff. The only other feedback we get is via surveys, "comment cards", or the direct complaint/compliment. This is much more efficient in analyzing our customers immediate concerns. Thanks. We remain Hooked!!!

Randy and Crew:

Please accept my thanks for providing this forum for us. You can never know how much I have learned from other FTers and, in return, it has been my pleasure to contribute when appropriate. Couldn't have done it without you and all the wonderful FlyerTalkers.

Well done, everyone!

blackjack-21 Nov 1, 2000 11:45 pm

Congratulations, of course, to Randy and Crew, and to all of us.
Without all of us in this diverse community of Flyertalkers, sharing our insights, thoughts, humor, and yes, sometimes even "jetblast", the above pinnacle could not have been reached in such a short time.
Is there any truth to the rumor that to celebrate this achievement, Randy & Crew will be sending all active FTer's an engraved plastic luggage tag to commemorate this feat, and when the posts reach 500,000 we will all receive, also free of charge, of course, a gold FT engraved luggage tag. However, when we reach the 1,000,000 post, don't know if Randy get enough platinum to give us all a luggage tag.
Of course, we'll still have to pay shipping and handling for all of the above.
Just jesting!!!!!????

Thanks again Randy and Crew, and well done.

Many thanks...not only to Randy and my fellow contributors but to the entire staff at the House of Miles that work so hard to make everything come together.

I think I would spend 50% less time online if it was not for Webflyer and Flyertalk.

Thanks Randy and Crew! This is a wonderful Board. I've learned so much from it.

Randy Petersen Nov 2, 2000 8:32 am

I hope you all understand that this is always a celebration of you. I simply have a few hundred post as does my staff. You are all the ones with the posts and the ones that add up to the quarter million....and yes, it's your posts that I get the most out of.

doc Nov 2, 2000 8:43 am

A perfect situation! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

After Burner Nov 2, 2000 8:43 am

Randy, I echo the sentiments expressed in this thread. This is a great board http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

One question: Is anyone aware of any treatment facilities that might be able to help me deal with my addiction to FT?? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

BlondeBomber Nov 2, 2000 8:56 am

. . . treatment, who wants treatment? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Maybe a treat, like going to another FT event like Altbier!

0524 Nov 2, 2000 11:15 am

I scan FT 1-2 times a day not only for the info, but for the enjoyable diversion from negotiations, contracts, planning my next trip, etc. Today, in fact, FT is a nice complement to my macaroni/tuna salad and Diet Dr. Pepper. Thanks, Randy.

richard Nov 2, 2000 3:35 pm

FT is my favorite place on the net to hang out. I joined over a year ago and love the community. Thanks!

philforest Nov 2, 2000 3:47 pm

I'e been here, off and on, for two or three years. I've had dinner with Catman, and I find the site the absolute best place to talk about travel. Thanks, Randy.

Counsellor Nov 4, 2000 12:16 am

Let me add my thanks as well, Randy. Not only have I learned a lot, I've met (on-line and in person) some absolutely fabulous folks!

FFAddict Nov 4, 2000 8:42 pm

Thanks Randy and thanks to all FT's who regularly contribute to this site. I truly enjoy visiting the site daily to learn from other Frequent flyer's experiences and to get to know you by your postings as well as occasionally meeting some of you in person. This brings to mind the great party in SFO 9/9/00. Thanks again to Rudi, Comicwoman, and Dgolds making that great weekend possible.

I have learned more on how to benefit from the rules and regulations of the airline industry during the last 6 months or so than all of my previous years of flying. Yet, I still recognize that there is so much more I can learn from all of your experiences and it's great fun.
