Which FF to choose?
Hi all
I have a friend who is flying from Melbourne to Hong Kong to London round trip on an economy class 'Q' ticket (discounted economy) on Cathay Pacific. She has asked me which frequent flyer program she should join to get maximum miles. My recommendation at this stage is Lanpass as it appears that she would not get points on Qantas. Any thoughts? Thanks Peter |
Actually after a bit more research I am starting to lean towards Qualiflyer.
By my calculations my friend would get about 21,000 miles which is enough for a round trip ticket anywhere in Australia. cheers Peter |
As someone who is currently looking to find the cheapest LON<>MEL ticket, I find your question, from a UK point of view, very saddening indeed.
Even the cheapest fare I can find for September 2001 (£878) is outrageous. That is, of course, because of the virtual monopoly BA/Qantas have on the quickest and best connection (via Singapore). No miles for £878? You are correct! The England - Australia extortionate rates need a little shaking up if, at these prices, you cannot even get miles for the journey! |
i've had a very frustrating difficult time with lan pass, and i would suggest that use another ff program until lan pass gets its act together. i'm still waiting for my miles to post, and from what i've read in the onepass area, it seems that many people have had similar bad experiences... |
You can accrue miles on Qualiflyer - at 100% too it appears. Plus 1000 miles for joining. I confirmed this with Qualiflyer.
cheers peter |
Why not go NZ the other way (LON - LAX - (AKL or SYD) - MEL). They always have cheap unbeatable fares (at least from "mainland" Europe). Currently there is a fare of some 5.000 DEM - biz that is. FFFP miles to be accrued.
