A Nice Cure For The %&$#* POP-UP's
I dont like "POP-UP's". IMHO they are very intrusive and a very disgusting form of advertising. Actually I receive little if any advertising with the nice *ATGUARD* program, but some pop-ups get through. So I searched the web far and wide for a nice positive inexpensive cure.
I have located a FREE CURE FOR THE POP-UP ads. It is small, and interesting enough, it is selective. If you see something you dont like on your screen, click on the nice program icon, it will show what URL's are active, double-click on the one(s) you dont want to see and POOF, the nasty thing is gone forever. NEAT and NICE. To quote the nice site "BHAM! Give those browser popup windows a taste of their own medicine... You didn't open it, so why should you have to close it?" Get it at: http://www.analogx.com/contents/down...etwork/pow.htm |

Check this program out: www.naviscope.com
It gives you excellent control over all types of ads and has many useful features including sync of your pc clock to an atomic clock, and nifty search engine center which includes a dictionary. Too many features to list (or for me to learn, really). And it's free. How can they do that? Yes, I appear to be nibbling the hand that feeds me (Randy's) but I did recently come back onboard as a subscriber to InsideFlyer. It was the late deliveries that drove me away. Now, I want to contribute to the bottom line. The 1500 Diners points offered didn't hurt either. Jim PS I don't block all ads, just pop ups and blinkers. Thanks you guys. That really made my day!

Thank you this may be one of the best things I ever recieve from reading these posts.

Misternice ~ AtGuard was bought last year by Norton and is now Norton Internet Security 2000, and I've never had a problem with it allowing a pop-up when I have the feature turned on. You may want to consider buying it to stay up to date since I don't think AtGuard has been updated since Norton bought it.

Thank you, that was very nice.
I have had it with the ads killing my browser with stuff like: The requested URL could not be retrieved While trying to retrieve the URL: http://cookie.adex3.flycast.com/serv...umdisplay.cgi? The following error was encountered: Unable to determine IP address from host name for cookie.adex3.flycast.com The dnsserver returned: DNS Domain 'cookie.adex3.flycast.com' is invalid: Host not found (authoritative). |
"EPS recommends" WebWasher
jimquan: Naviscope is only free "for a limited time." http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif If you're the kind of person who must have features, features, and more features, look at Proxomitron. Also, there's plenty of software out there for time sync, e.g. Automachron. [This message has been edited by EPS (edited 08-26-2000).] |
I bow to the gentleman with greater bandwidth! Maybe I'll try your suggestions when my free Naviscope trial becomes crippleware.

Another freebie for (most) Windows Internet Explorer users:
http://www.panicware.com/product_dpps.html I have not evaluated this software. |
Slightly off-topic: Does anyone know of any utility to block all http access to a user-provided list of certain sites? This could be very powerful, because every time you see a banner or popup ad, you just add its URL domain name to your banned list and next time, no ad, just a blank space. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
No more "monkey punching" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif FewMiles.. |
Yes, but ... if that's all you want, you might simply try the hosts file trick. No additional software required!

EPS, thanks for the link! Just what I needed. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
