Voice Portal Convenient for FF

Fellow FF,
I stumbled upon this voice portal 1-800-555-TELL http://www.tellme.com . When you dial in to this number you can get free information either by voice activated menu or you can key in some info......
Its worth a try you can get nation wide information such as restaurants, weather, stock quotes, Travel Info, Traffic Reports, News, Sports, and more......

For example I wanted to find a restaurant in Ann Arbor, MI (My old College Stomping Ground http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ). I Drilled down the appropriate menus and found the restaurant I wanted, and it even connects you(should you need to make reservations, or place an order).

My Review:
I definitley will store this number on my cell phone, I was impressed by the quality of voice recognition(no errors). The only draw-back is you have to listen to 3 second blurps about the services sponsors every time you access a new feature.

Quick Hints:
You dont have to listen to the whole menu to make a selection
To Back track up menus, just say "Go Back"

Tellme is really cool. Of course, I work for the company that makes it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

(I swear I didn't put DenverPlat up to this. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif)

Or you can try 1-800-4BVOCAL. It's great since they know what city I'm in when I call on my cell, and automatically get that weather (or can request any other city). Also has flight, stock, etc information.

I've used that and like them. Have never tried TELLME.

There is also a service at 888-inetnow. Or look at: www.inetnow.com
Basically you call the number, and get a person (called a surfer). They can look up anything you want on the net. You can either tell them to go to a certain web site, or you can just ask a general question like:
Who is the mayor of CLE; or
What is the weather in SFO; or
__What is the gate on my flight, etc.

SJCAA,
I'm still waiting on those upgrade Certs you promised http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif J/k.
Jetsetter, I checked out inetnow their prices seemed a little steep, compared to free, but I guess you get more personalized services

I talked to one of the guys who's doing a lot of the coding on this @ a conference in SAN this summer. It's all very neat stuff. I got a cool "Hack The Phone:TellMe.com" t-shirt out of it. They also support individuals developing their own TellMe services for use on the TellMe system. My brain immediately started spinning out possible FF uses for it http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. You don't really have to be that much of
a programmer to use it either.

It is ad-supported, so yes, there are occasional blurbs inserted to help pay for it all.
And yes, the vorec behind it IS quite amazing. I can only imagine the number of PhD theses that resulted from the initial research that led to it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
