DOT issues monthly Air Travel Consumer Report
 

The Department of Transportation (DOT) today issued its monthly Air Travel Consumer Report, which contains information about airline mishandled baggage, as well as consumer disability and service complaints for June 2000.

Couldn't help but notice (as it is part of my job to keep up with such things) that delay statistics were kept out of this issue for now. DOT is citing new computer probs... and will have the report re-released when the delay info is updated.

Don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm anxious to see updated delay info, particularly for Chicago O'Hare! After all of the UA cancelations and bad wx in the midwest, I'm very curious to see how much delays are up compared to the last couple of years. I'm also beginning to wonder if ORD will fall to around 880,000 ops this year -- well below most projections of around 905,000.

Unusually stormy weather, the busiest travel summer on record and an air traffic control system stretched to its limits have combined to create the delays. A new cooperative program between the FAA and airlines doesn't appear to be making a major dent in the numbers.

AND: July was the third-worst month for airline delays since the Federal Aviation Administration started keep the stats, although the delays were slightly less than one year ago.
