Earning mileage points for children
 

My 12 yr. old son needs 5.5 Rapid Reward credits by Nov. 13th to earn a free trip. Does anyone have any suggestions for bonuses available for children? We will probably try and do a short trip before then so he'll only need 1.5 credits. I hate to see them go to waste. They are not transferable are they?

The topic header got my mind reeling at the thought of earning miles for HAVING children. Oh well.

You can also earn Rapid Rewards credits with their service partners, so if you stay at a hotel on your 'short trip' you can have that credited to his account.

Why not? I have a Visa card that earns miles...

Back in 1994 when my daughter Katie was born, I had a traditional insurance plan, not a PPO, HMO etc. I had my wife's OB/GYN charge out $2000. each month for three months just after my statement cutoff. I would the submit the claim to the insurance company, and actually get a check in less than 60 days. I then would pay the CC company without getting hit with any intrest. The hospital also took plastic. By 1997 when Sarah was born, we were in a POS plan, so no miles were possible as the doctor collected directly from the insurance company. Of course my wife and most of my friend thought I was nuts ( and probably still do ), but nobody laughs when the family flys for free !

The Diners Club Club Rewards program would allow you to make a transfer into his (or any) account. Simply give Diners his Rapid Rewards account number when making the transfer. 2,000 Club Reward points ($1,000 in spending) = 1 Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Credit.

Rapid Reward credits are not transferable to another Rapid Rewards account.

I don't know if this is relevant for Southwest Airlines, but I was able to get some telephone bonus miles put into the account of one of my children. First I had to check that this was ok with the long-distance company. It was. Then I had to talk to my local company and add my child's name to our account. This didn't affect our listing or bill. Since she had the same last name and lived at the same address, it was allowed.
