Trip.com rewards program is no more!

The trip.com rewards program is ending. I received the following e-mail this morning:

Dear Valued Customer,

TRIP.com would like to inform you of some upcoming changes to our rewardTRIP
program. Due to marketplace changes, our redemption options have become
limited and we have made the difficult decision to eliminate the rewardTRIP
program. The following dates apply to your personal rewardTRIP account:

- August 31, 2000 - Last day to accumulate rewardTRIP points
- September 1, 2000 - Last day to exchange rewardTRIP points for Red
Lobster or Olive Garden gift certificates or American
Express Gift Cheques
- September 1, 2000 - TRIP.com will email you with information about
our travel voucher redemption offer
- October 31, 2000 - Final deadline for redeeming rewardTRIP points for either
TWA or American Airlines frequent flyer miles or TRIP.com
travel vouchers
- October 31, 2000 - TRIP.com rewardTRIP program is discontinued

To view your personal account, please go to http://flight.trip.com/rewardTRIP/in...24,1-1,00.html .
This is the only way you can access your account.

Thank you for your continued support and patronage of TRIP.com and we look
forward to serving your travel needs in the future.

Regards,
TRIP.com Customer Service

When they had their special 3 miles per $ spent promotions, one could really rack up the miles. Now there will be no real reason to use them. I wonder if AOL/AAdvantage had anything to do with trip.com pulling the plug on the rewards program?

Seems like nearly all these programs are just cutting back- almost across the board! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I think what we are seeing is the dot.com world burning through their IPO $$$ and still not making a profit and having to scale back while hoping to hang on and avoid bankruptcy...just my thoughts http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
