compubank online banking???????
Has anyone tried this to accumulate more flyer miles---Is online banking inconvenient when it is totally on the internet with no local branch to go to?
|
I've been banking at CompuBank for the past 8 months, and overall I'm very happy with them. Please see

I use Compubank exclusively for my credit card needs. I am racking up the points which I'm hanging on to in case Click Rewards does another double redemption promotion. At the second to last "live flyertalk" Randy Peterson mentioned that he has heard rumors that it will happen again. For me Compubank is the only way to go.

They did not work out for me. But a lot of people here use them happily. I'd go with the majority on this one, maybe I just had a one time bad experience.

I agree, Compubank is great. You can get around the no local branches by keeping your local checking account open and linking it electronically to Compubank. If you have checks to deposit, you go to your local bank and deposit them. Then you log onto Compubank and transfer the amount to your Compubank account. Three days later, the money is there and the transfers are free and unlimited. Their customer service is very good so far, no hold time on the phone and quick responses to emails. They are also very flexible, I asked them to raise the per day limit on my Check card from the default $1500 per day to $10000 to day and they did it right away, no questions asked. Looks like a great company so far.

I've been using it for about two months - and am very happy with them. CG has actually solved the only reservation I had, the deposits have to be mailed. But he is right, transfers are free (even an international transfer I made to India was free), and their customer service is courteous and prompt. I am slowly setting up my billpay services for the few bills that do not accept credit cards/ online payments.

I am happy CompuBank customer for since March. I use its Visa checkcard where Sheraton AmEx is not accepted.
On FF miles, your best bet is ClickMiles -> Starwood Preferred Guest points -> any of SPG's 28 airlines partners. If you haven't found out yet, SPG offers 5K bonus miles when you transfer 20K points; 20K SPG pts -> 25K FF miles. You can get up to $70 in sign up cash bonus, for the listing check out http://www.valueconsumer.com/CreditCards/Finance.htm ------------------ For money savings ideas & tips check & FF miles bonus for fiance & auto buying check out ValueConsumer.com [This message has been edited by DH (edited 07-23-2000).] |

Do bill pays, where Compubank sends out a check for you, also rack up points? Or is it just their bank card non debit transactions that add points?
|
I'll join the rest of the group, I love Compubank. The miles are good (but don't try to redeem them for Delta miles, Delta won't accept them) and they are one of the very few online banks that let you initiate a transfer directly from your regular bank into them online. They say it takes three business days to clear, but if I did one right now the money would be available tomorrow afternoon. It's by far the easiest way to make deposits (not counting direct deposit).
I pretty much use them for the check card, and have most of my bills being debited directly to the Visa Check Card (not the checking account, the money comes out of the same pot, but I don't get the clickrewards that way). I don't use them for cash transactions, and haven't ever written a check against them, but that's not why I got the account. You do get clickrewards for Paypal transactions. If you sign up they will give you a $20 bonus, if you sign up as an affiliate before you open your account and wait until they approve your affiliate status then you can refer yourself to open the account and get another $40. Have the wife and kids open an account through you and they each get $20, and you get another $40 for each one. Can't beat that deal. I'm using the referral bonuses as a fundraiser for several non profits, if one of the members opens an account through my link I donate the $40 (and they are guilted into donating the extra $20) to the agency. It's a great way to get $60 per person and not have it cost anything. The only problem, and a minor one, is the card isn't accepted at two of my local grocery stores, it just won't scan, everywhere else it's been great. |

You can no longer increase the Visa debit card limit with Compubank. The default is $1,500 and is fixed. I spoke with compubank this morning and was told that their contract with Visa prohibits increasing the limit. They were increasing the limit in the past, but they got stock with a few stolen cards and high charges and Visa would not charge back the merchants as their contract with Visa limits them to $1,500 for fraud reimbursement.
So, looks like I will have to use other credit/debit cards for high spend items, and it is these items that help me to rack up the points. This is a real set back for compubnak and my business. Also, if you did get a limit increase, look for a letter over the next month or two with a decrease. although the rep I spoke to was not sure if they were going to do decreases or not, they were still looking at the impact of what it may do. Now I am off to pay for a $1,950.00 ticket and if I pay via a travel agent I can split it amongst cards, but not via the net. Oh well, it will be an Amex transaction today. |
CompuBank is awesome. Besides being the best deal as some of you have mentioned above, it is also the only Internet bank that supports business checking accounts. Me being a Generation Y 20-something stuck in a little midwestern town where the 60 yr old clerks misspelled the name of my business just because it had a ".com" in it, CompuBank is a blessing - and I've happily moved my personal and business checking a/c's to them. So far it has been the perfect match for me, and I've also tried other internet banks like wingspan. The only thing I dislike about Compubank is the look & feel of their website - looks like it was designed by a 13 yr old!!! wish they had a more professional interface.
just my .10 c.. |
Mel, I agree. I do like the service, no problems. I can live with the limit on the Visa debit card. So far other then that, all has been fine.
About the web interface, it does need to be redesigned, and I find it a little agravating that transactions made in currencies other then USD$ are posted only in USD$. How do you know that you were charged the correct amount if the original currency used is never displayed. Also, the field lenght of the merchant is not long enough so often I can not tell from the web site which transaction is which unless I find the reciept, example, "Publix Grocery Store # 2" yet the store number is 10 digits and the name and city are missing. Otherwise, I am really happy about Compubank. Posting to click rewards is very fast and the services they offer are and have been working well for me. |
I, too, love CompuBank. Now they allow ACH transfers to your other bank accounts, not just from them. Moving funds has never been easier or cheaper. Anyone know why I can't use ClickMiles earned with the VISA card on Delta??
