Admitting big GOOFS!

A followup to my rantings about travel agencies and the problems I've had with them.

The agency that handled my Vegas trip sends
me a letter with a check enclosed covering the difference in the original hotel rate I was promised and what the hotel really charged. It was a personally typed letter adding the check included something extra for me to "go out and have dinner on us and remember all the great things about your trip to Las Vegas." It was from the person who
GOOFED the hotel reservation in the first place, also asking that I would consider the
service in teh future. A very nice gesture.

Now comes my HOliday Inn reservation in NYC
(in detail under the HOliday Inn posting.)
AMEX quoted me a LOWER rate than the hotel wanted to charge me. The customer care rep
promised they would credit my card with the rate difference. We'll see.

It's nice when someone admits a mistake. I do
it all the time, really! CATMAN

baobab Nov 10, 1998 1:25 pm

I suppose it's a good thing to take a mistake (no ****s here) and turn it into a customer service opportunity... because the agency was so apologetic about their mistake you are likely to use them again, Catman - and they will make more of a profit than the cost of your dinner. (And they are likely to take very good care of you from now on in)

Sounds like the beginning of a beautiful relationship...

Rudi Nov 10, 1998 3:35 pm

... why don't they make more mistakes with my resevations, so that I could also profit more ...

jaws43 Nov 10, 1998 7:21 pm

Is Goofy a Cat........man?

baobab Nov 11, 1998 8:30 am

Catman - I think Jaws is sulking because of your remarks about Blue Bell...

GeorgeJ Nov 11, 1998 9:58 am

The various Marriott divisions seem to have the most problems with rates when you book through central reservations. At one Courtyard, they tried to charge me around $30 more per night over what I had confirmed at. I questioned it around 6 am and the manager happened to be around that early. He looked up my reservation on the computer and saw where I had been quoted the lower rate & later it was changed upward; he fixed my bill with the lower room rate, no problem. Recently at a Fairfield Inn, the quoted rate was about $25 higher than what was shown on the Marriott web site. I inquired at check-in and they gave me the lower rate, no problem..

NJDavid Nov 11, 1998 11:34 am

Check my posting under Hilton. I don't know how to handle this goof, or what to ask for...

Dave

Catman Nov 11, 1998 12:07 pm

Marriott once goofed about a rate so I showed the desk person a copy of the reservation that I made over their website. The manager
called Marriott central reservations, they
said I was right and in fact upgraded me to
a better room for "my frustration."

Frustration? That check-in with the delay was
faster and handled nicer than most places I've been to!

On my Holiday fiasco... I alerted AMEX about the Holiday Inn billing problem. Amex called the main reservations office. They told me to look for the credit in two billing
cycles or call Holiday and they'll take care of it. The Midtown hotel still tried to say I was wrong and goofy! So I'll keep you posted!

OMNI for JAWS43...Goofy is a big slobbering
dog. The only Disney cats are Figaro (from
Pinocchio) The Astrocats and the Lion King.
Sorry if I offended you earlier. CATMAN

kokonutz Nov 11, 1998 3:12 pm

WAY OMNI: A Cat also figures prominently in the Disney features 101 Dalmations (the animated version), Lady and the Tramp (the siamese twins), the panther in Jungle Book.

Hey, I've got a 4 and a 5 year old...I've got my dinsey movies down COLD!

PremEx Nov 11, 1998 3:48 pm

Catman! And how could you forget, in a major role, Lucifer from Cinderella? And in Alice in Wonderland, the Cheshire Cat, and in a minor role, Alice's cat, Dinah! I'm deducting 20,000 miles from your account for each omission.

jaws43 Nov 11, 1998 4:24 pm

I, too, am deducting 20,000 miles, and forcing Catman to fly on WN for his next trip. I think the Ol' Tom has been sippin'
something that's about 100 proof.

baobab Nov 11, 1998 4:32 pm

Uh-oh Catman, there be alligators here!

How could you forget that PremEx has a professional relationship with Disney?

Catman Nov 12, 1998 10:40 am

MAJOR OMNI and BIG MEOWS!!!
PremEx and Matt and everyone else...I have NOT seen ALL the Disney movies... but I meant to post about the Panther in Jungle Book...

I think I was focusing on the MAJOR cat performers in the Disney movies. Did not see Alice. But I kick myself for forgetting
Si and Am from "Lady and the Tramp" (One of my all time favorite movies.) In fact the acting in some of the Disney toons is better than some of the real-life human junk they
put out there (I have one recent film in particular in mind!)

I also checked my UA account and found a negative! I guess you have a lot a lot of the Disney magic. (I do like Disney! And
Warner Bros too!)

JAWS43... I'm filing a passport review. But
I won't be taking SW to the "second greatest
state in the world!" CATMAN

jaws43 Nov 12, 1998 10:54 am

That does it!!! You will think 2nd greatest when the Border Guard ransacks your luggage and confiscates the Jersee addressed bag tags, your driver's license and your passsport, which is invalid in TEXAS anyway.
baobab talks about alligators, well the Texas
Javalenas are going to camp in your bedroom.

Catman Nov 12, 1998 11:15 am

You have the greatest sense of humor, Jaws43.
I have no idea what those creatures you described are... and I probably don't want to know.

But I had to say "second" because the Jerzee
people are threatening to deport me!!! I have no where to go! CATMAN

jaws43 Nov 12, 1998 11:20 am

Jerzee threats are only idle threats anyway. But if you need a place to go, then "Come on down", the "price is right" here at the JAWs Ranch.

PremEx Nov 12, 1998 11:41 am

Javalenas? I'm not sure, but I think they are related to the "Jackalope".

Catman Nov 12, 1998 12:00 pm

Before the police cat asks to get back on the topic... thanks for the offer JAWS43... but will I earn FF miles staying at "JAWS Ranch!"

Premex: I guess my cats can whip a jackalope!
CATMAN

hnechets Nov 12, 1998 6:31 pm

PremEx--Jaws43 is sincere; just a little typo there. JAVELINAS (pronounced HAV-uh-lee-nas) are wild peccaries (pigs) with very sharp tusks and a nasty temperament.

Great hunting and good eating when cooked right..which is to say, slow smoked a la BBQ with a really good sauce for the meat!

Your ex-Texan,
-Harry

jaws43 Nov 12, 1998 6:42 pm

hnechets(Harry), A man after my taste buds and making me get out the 30-06 and think about shooting those nasty pigs. All they do is mess up a good deer hunt and eat all the food in the deer feeder.

Anyway, they are no relation to Jackalopes and the Ol' Tom needs one for a pet. Although, I betcha the CAT would not turn down a barbque. I have a feeling that the
CAT enjoys a good meal. All 1.88 meters of him.

hnechets Nov 12, 1998 6:56 pm

Right-O, Jaws43. I think what we need to do is get the ole CAT down South and feed him lots of Blue Belle ice cream and Southern-style BBQ.

He'll never be be the same!

jaws43 Nov 12, 1998 7:08 pm

hnechets, the CAT has been allowed to enter TEXAS 12/26 and stay until 1/2/99. The Border Patrol will check him out at DFW and see that there are no catfleas or other germs he may bring into the Free State of TEXAS. While the Ol' Tom is visiting, I am sure that Blue Bell will be consumed by him so he can tell the rest of the world why "we eat all we can and sell the rest". There's some pretty good BBQ also.

PremEx Nov 12, 1998 9:37 pm

What's Catman doing goin' down to that country between New Mexico and Oklahoma? Gonna visit a few CatHouses I suppose.

Catman Nov 12, 1998 11:52 pm

You guys are so funny. Before I respond I'm
going to get back on the topic concerning
Holiday Inn.

They gave me a call thursday night and me
thinking it was about my Midtown manhattan
stay fiasco I stayed on the line. So the rep
says "Since you are a loyal and frequent customer, we are to offer you... our new
Holiday Inn/Crown Plaza platnium Visa." I nicely said "I would rather have my refund
for my rate fiasco earlier this week and I
have so many credit cards the cats are using them as toys!" SO Holiday Inn has a file
on me, but for all the wrong reasons.

Now going OMNI: Texas is one of my favorite
places and while PremEx I can't say I'll visit a few cathouses I will be going "cross
Texan country" with my friends as part of my
birthday MONTH celebration (I celebrate all of December because my friends are free at different times.) HOpe to earn a lot of hotel points along the way. It caps off with
THE birthday celebration, New Year's Eve (which I know some of you guys have been celebrating over the years.) SO have a Pepsi
on me! CATMAN

jaws43 Nov 13, 1998 9:27 am

PremEx, You have the Country part correct. However, NM(New Mexico to you, but Neiman-Marcus to us) and OK, are commonly referred to as far West TEXAS, and far North TEXAS, respectively. Our Great Country will continue to fly the Lone Star Flag. Holiday Inns like Catman.

Catman Nov 13, 1998 12:12 pm

Another chapter in the HOliday Inn drama...
They sent me a form letter saying basically that they were so sorry that I was unhappy at
the Midtown Manhattan H-I (the hotel was fine, it's the rate issue that is my problem)
and they would look into my "request" (which I assume is the rate question.

At least H-I is trying, so I guess like Jaws43 says they like me. But I guess Motel6 would love to get me and my AMEX Membership Rewards Plus gold card! CATMAN
