All of my pickpocketing friends go to the Cuzco train station via Lima for their annual take.

Go to Cuzco, to MP, to the Amazon, but only TRANSIT Lima .... the armpit of South America IMHO, and I've been there 5 times.

I stayed in the Sheraton Lima. Stayed on weekend; It is category 1 hotel if you are using points, only 2,000 points. Actually it was very nice Hotel. They upgraded us to Towers room and the conceirge invited my wife and to share in the Buffet breakfast in the morning for free. Staff went out of way to be helpful. A welcome gift of a box of chocolate and a fruit basket was provided. Hotel has small Casino on ground floor and it is the only Casino I have ever been in where they bring you complimentary appetizers along with drinks. I did not expect much from this hotel and was pleasently surprised. There is a big park adjacent to the hotel and a museum I did not visit is located in the park.

Glad to read this!! We are leaving in three weeks for Lima, to get to the Amazon and Machu Picchu. We were considering adding a few days on to visit Lima but have reconsidered. Thanks for the advice.
