Does anyone know a good deal/travel agent/ etc for getting cheap fares with or without hotels from LA to Cabo or La Paz?

Generally if you fly from Tijuana, you would save like $80 in international taxes. However, it looks like LAX-Los Cabos starts at $198 RT and LAX-La Paz is $188, while Tijuana-La Paz is $260, so you would save on tax but pay more in airfare.
If you have easy access to travel agencies in Tijuana, though, you might find a good deal on an air and hotel package-- my experience, based on living in Mexico for 1 1/2 years, is that domestic packages sold by Mexican companies (AeroCalifornia, AeroMexico Vacations) have better deals than international ones (Alaska, America West Vacations et.al.). It may be worth a day trip to Tijuana to check it out. Of note, though, is that there isn't through service from Tijuana to Los Cabos, so you'd be hard pressed to find a package. |
My wife and I are visiting Los Cabos in September, flying LAS-LAX-SJD (on MEX with flight downs and back) on September 22nd, and returning SJD-LAX-SYD September 25th. THAT will be a long day of flying! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Oz, I can only comment on the Westin Regina and without a doubt it is the best http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Although u know it may be a bit pricy, I am sure they will have some specials as I booked it for 153.00 last Sept. The location is halfway between the airport and Los Cabos it self. A rental car is necessary but u probably know that. I heard that the Intercontinental is pretty nice but I think the Westin tops all of the San Jose Del Cabo hotels.

Re apple. i found prices on site under Sizzlin Specials...check with a travel agent in your area...they have charters out of LA...and they're the cheapest I've seen...

tvl4free .. we have already booked revenue tix .. wish I hadn't, now I see the posts above. We paid about $300+ each for Coach on Mex!
What I gotta do now is find somewhere quiet and relaxing and romantic to stay. And NOCOTW .. never even thought about a CAR .. is it 100% necessary do you think? Is airport a long haul away, and what is there around to drive to? We sorta were thinking of sunning on the beach! |

I would second the recomendation about the Westin. Stayed there in January and it was clearly one of the top 2 or 3 resorts in the area. (My wife and I looked around a few of them).
if you are a starwood program member, 1500 points will get you 50% off the rack rate for up to 5 nights. We stayed 10 nights for a net rate of $125/night (before taxes and other fees) for only a 3000 point award. Based on the quality of the facility, It was well worth it. If u plan on staying at the hotel and beach lounging for the whole time,then a car isn't necessary. If u want to get to downtown to the restaurants,clubs,etc then a car would be a good idea cause the Westin and good hotels are 30 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from downtown.....basically half way between the two. Those rates at the Westin look GREAT with the F&B credit and free 4th night. When I went to Cabo last Sept of Labor day weekend,there was a hugh hurricane warning and high winds that grounded all flights for a day and it was horrible so keep in mind MEX has hurrican season in Sept.

I, too, highly recommend the Westin Regina in Los Cabos. The property is just incredible, and there's a shuttle from the hotel into both cities (Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo), so being outside of the city limits isn't a problem at all.
And the hotel rooms probably have my favorite showers anywhere. You'll know what I mean when you see it. We stayed there last year on a 50% off award from Starwood hotels. For 1500 Starpoints, you can get a room for half off the rack rate. At half off, we got a rate of around $125 a night for an oceanview room -- it was worth every penny (or peso). |
