How much time to earn status?
My husband and I only like a couple of thousand miles each before reaching the 25k
with DL. My question is this- we earned a majority of these miles on a trip to Maui last June and some of the miles this year; do we have until the end of June to qualify for the SM on DL or does it end in Dec. each year?? We are running out of time, less than two weeks and will have to plan a week-end trip to earn the additional miles if it will help us reach SM status. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif It's not much but its a start!!! Thanks in advance for your input- a not to experienced but reaching for that goal frequent flyer. |
It works on the calendar year for Delta and most other airlines. So, you start at 0 at Jan 1.

DL is definitely calendar year - sorry!! To be honest, I can't think of a single airline that allows you to complete the requirement in your own 12 months ie start date anytime. I think there are a few that Elites have status until Feb 1, but whether you can qualify 'til then I really don't know.

Thanks opus17 and leroy11- Oh well, that's what I kinda thought but just needed reassurance! Guess we will just get to enjoy a free roundtrip somewhere or maybe just keep saving for a trip we couldn't normally afford http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Leroy11: with KL, although you do not choose your dates as such, the starting point is the date at which you join; thereafter, as soon as you reach a higher level, the start date for the 12 months qualifying period becomes the date at which you first reach the level in question. Thus, for instance, if you join on Feb 2 2000, you have until Feb 1 2001 to become silver; if you become silver on June 2 2000, you have until June 1 2001, to remain silver for the following year starting June 2 2001 and so on.

with LH any 12 months count.

FYI
I think Aer Lingus works on 12 months from your last flight. Every few months or so they look back at the last 12 moths. There are pros and cons to this and now that they are with 1World, it may change. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
And American has their gold/platinum challenge promotions which allow for very quick elite qualification.

With AA, you qualify during the calendar year (exception: challenges as in the previous post) but your status runs through February two years later. So, if you get 25,000 miles in calendar 2000, you're Gold AAdvantage from the day you qualify through Feb. 28, 2002.
They probably started this schedule so they'd have time after the end of the year to sort out the levels before computers did it all in real time, and have just kept it since. |
SAS EuroBonus 1 year period can start anytime of the year. If a person became a member the 1st of April 00, his last date to qualify for silver or guld is 30th march 01.

Wish the KL/LH/ aer lingus rules worked for UA. Have done 35K in last 9 months on UA,but 20K end of 99 and 15K last 6 months. Even though I had 7K ticketed for first week of 2000 UA wouldn't accept that with 99 miles http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

TWA used to take any 12-month period. Don't know if they still do, but think not.
(Just checked - they use calendar year now.) [This message has been edited by Counsellor (edited 06-24-2000).] |
i also think ba us exec club counts tier points based on a 12 month calendar. my friend just qualified for 1st tier(silver?) on june 1.

BA US counts your first twelve months as a 'year' and then switches to a calendar year. This is a relatively fair way of assigning status. If you move your account from elsewhere to the US they apply a similar rule - I was granted about eighteen months of 'free' status because I had a mid-year move. It does take a few months for them to fully transfer your account, so redemption has to be put on hold.
As far as I'm aware, BA global [may vary by region] runs on a twelve-month cycle determined by your joining/tier qualification date. |
I'll chime in with the Southwest response:
The 100 flight credits needed for the Companion Pass must be in any consecutive 12-month period. Credits "fall off" after 12 months. |
