You Can Blame FlyAAway
Quote:
You can blame FlyAAway for this thread being in wide screen. The reason why threads go to wide-screen is if someone posts a URL that is so long to keep it together, UBB must render the window longer. Hence, if FlyAAway went back and manually cut the URL in his second or third posting down to size, we'd all be back to normal. End quote. Sort of harsh! I would think that in light of recent events on this board, that there might have been a better way to make your case. That is why I am choosing to go with non-attribution. At any rate, I did not do it on purpose. Had the thread remained open, I would have certainly repaired my error. I suppose what comes around goes around. I have been harsh, here, in the past. Thought Punki's thread had provided my opportunity to redeem myself. It was an excellent thread and seemed like a great "heads-up" to all be a little more thoughtful and appreciate what we have here. The posted URL was meant to be informative. To tell the truth, I did not take note of the length. If the "old-heads" are that spring-loaded to pounce on the well meaning, it is suddenly less inviting. There is a lot of value to be gleaned here, just by logging on. If individual postings aren't appreciated and given a measure of respect, then perhaps posting is no longer appropriate. I had aspirations to become an Evangelist. Perhaps it is time to revert to "Lurker". Like I said, Punki's thread should be required reading. It is a good reminder of what attracted us all. There is also the admonition to think before hitting the send button. A recent visitor was extremely repellent. I would not have expected that same spirit from an Evangelist. C'est la vie. |
I think everyone is a little too touchy right now. You forget one little smilie and people go crazy. Sheesh.
Obviously I knew that you did not intend to put the thread into widescreen. No offense was intended, but if you get offended so easily, then I have no apologies. Let's see the facts: 1) You put a long URL (something a lot of people do) on a post and hence it went wide screen. 2) People asked why the post was wide screen. 3) I said your post is to blame. Now maybe instead of saying 'You can blame Flyaway' I should have said' 'You can blame Flyaway's post', but hindsight is 20/20. I don't see a problem here. I am very sorry that you are so easily offended. Finally, any reasonable person would take this into a private forum. Unlike others, my email is available, and I would have been glad to explain it and even edit my post to clarify. The problem here really is everyone's self-entitlement to air their disagreements with everyone else. Take it outside! |

The problem here really is everyone's self-entitlement to air their disagreements with everyone else. Take it outside! Some other facts: My email is available. If it was a sterling idea for me to use your e-mail, I am curious to know why the opposite did not seem to hold true. Perhaps looking for the cause, and tactfully pointing it out, would be more beneficial than assigning blame. ("looks like FlyAAway inadvertently let a big old URL slip in causing this thread to balloon up to monstrous proportions") You obliquely acknowledge the idea that you may have offended, but then dismiss yourself from having to, or wanting to, apologize. That is in stark contrast with Nathan Detroit's thread in Randy Peterson Only entitled APOLOGY BOARD (or something close). Finally, the fact that you do not see a problem here does not mean that it does not exist. Perhaps email would have been better. I feel it can be intrusive. There was no intention to get in your face. It was offered on a non-attribute basis. If I am too touchy, then I offer my apology! The board seems to be on the mend. The comments I received did not seem to be in keeping with the mending. Chances are that life can go on and we can still be friends. I am willing. Perhaps my next stop should be at Nathan Detroit's thread. Perhaps we could all leave something at the alter. |
