I'm somewhat unclear about what taxes we'll have to pay at the Lima airport. We fly to Lima from Miami and stay overnight in Lima. The next morning we travel to Quito and then back to Lima that evening and again stay overnight in Lima. The next morning we travel to Cuzco for 2 days and then travel back to Lima to catch our flight to Miami, we will be staying in the airport (in transit). Any help would be appreciated.

Dear Phil...I want to do the same trip that you are on...Can you book me a seat on your itinerary? I'm still waiting to hear back from Latin Pass if i will qualify but I only have until the end of June and I'd like to do it as cheaply and quickly as possible...Can you please let me know what you think...June 12th departure is perfect but where to I pay and book tickets?Thank you please reply soon....thanks xxoo-ster
I have the same itinerary as Sapman, coming up in June. Today I called Latin Pass to check whether a E-30 fare is valid on Copa (PTY to MIA). They said to call Copa. I did, and Copa said " All our published fares are valid for ff miles... but only on Onepass, not on Latin Pass. We haven't had anything to do with Latin Pass since last year." I pressed this and couldn't get any different answer. Called Latin Pass back and they said, "WE are the ones giving the credit, and we are crediting Copa flights that qualify for their own ff miles. You will just have to send us all the documentation." I'm pretty well commited to the itinerary, starting 12 June. Has anybody had any Copa miles actually post with Latin Pass ?
|
Please email me anything to help me do this trip quickly and cheap! I'm a single girl from the virgin islands and I need the miles ..please email any info thank you
Originally posted by cesco.g: Got back last night from my million miler trip. Generally a pleasant but a bit tiring trip doing 14 flights (including connections to / from MIA) in 3 1/2 days. First of all thanks to all of you who shared their planning and travel experiences with the board. I hope I can help some who are still due to go with a couple of comments. I was lucky to meet JayJ in Lima who fortunately had posted his itinerary. We were able to travel together the LIM-SJO and GUA - MGA - MIA legs and enjoyed a few beers together the evening in GUA. 1. Flights All flights connected, no serious delays. 1.1. Flight VX 521 on 4-29 BOG - UIO - LIM. Did not hear or notice anything about strikes. Flight was actually operating with a load of 20% at the most. I had a full fare Y ticket showing 2 separate segments for BOG - UIO and UIO - LIM. I called Aces U.S. reservation last week to check and was told it was impossible to get 2 boarding passes; the agent said it was "illegal". Calling back before my trip I requested 2 separate seat assignments for the 2 segments which I was given. In BOG the Aces check-in agent entered my flight and the system printed out 2 boarding passes which she handed over to me - no questions asked. On the BOG - UIO boarding pass (airline section) she wrote in black ink " *LIM* ", on the UIO - LIM she had written "no sin cupon". Bothe ticket segments were retained at check-in. I also checked with LP who told me: as long as there are 2 separate ticket segments it counts as 2 flight segments on Aces. So it should also work this way, but you might have to call/write in because the flights might only post as one flight if you only get issued one boarding pass. 1.2. Flight TA 515 SAL - MGA - MIA, booked in business class. Getting 2 boarding passes issued was no problem at all. 2. Hotels, ground transportation etc. 2.1. CCS: stayed at the Intercontinental at the rate of $ 125. Taxis: It is important that you negotiate the price before entering the cab. The company Teletaxi - ph# (02) 753 9122 - offers the ride between airport and city for a fixed rate of $ 20 (12'000 Bov./local currency). For the ride to the airport it is fairly easy: call them before you check out and the driver will be waiting in his car outside the lobby. Depending on the time of your arrival you may also call them on the same phone number form the airport (they have a base nearby) and they will pick you up. The location is on the upper level road, not the road at the arrival/departure level (here are only the "airport mafia cabs"). You reach the upper level by going up the escalators inside from the arrival level, then walk across a passway outside to the upper street. You need to speak some Spanish when you call, since the dispatchers typically do not speak English. The "mafia" fare from the airport are min. $ 30 (or 20'000 local money). At the hotel the fare was $ 40 (posted as "weekend rate"). 2.2. LIM: If you have only a few hours layover and want to get out of the airport without your bags you might put them away at the "lockers". You find them (sign) on the very left side as you enter the check-in hall. You hand it over to an attendant who issues you a clain check and locks it up in a separate room. You may want to lock your bag and/or have the plastic-shrink wrapped in the hall beforehand for additional security. People everywhere were very helpful, honest and friendly. I felt very safe there. 2.3. GUA: All hotels (Radisson, Holiday Inn, Westin, Marriott) are within a couple of small blocks from each other, about a 5 - 10 min. drive from the airport. Pick-up with the shuttle was fine after calling them from the airport as indicated on earlier post. The Radisson morning shuttle left too late for me but thanks to JajJ I was able to ride along with him from the Holiday Inn next door. Now, lets hope all those flights post correctly and in time. I've had some interest in my sub $1400 +15K CO miles = million mile run. All of my flights have credited except for one (UIO-LIM, although LIM-UIO did credit, same class of service). It should credit any day now. I have tried to re-book the trip(to see if I could), but Travelocity doesn't seem to want to help. I'll summarize a couple of hints here...
MIA-SJO-BOG (Lacsa) BOG-LIM (Avianca) LIM-UIO-LIM (Aces) for $320. The trick? Requested MIA-SJO-BOG-UIO-LIM, and one of the choices for the 3rd leg was BOG-LIM-UIO on Avianca-Aces. Travelocity won't do this today...but keep trying LIM-CUS-LIM (TacaPeru) LIM-GYE was cheaper when booked together. ~$480? GYE-PTY-BOG (Copa) is only about $220 (Don't use PTY-BOG portion) I used 15K for PTY-GUA-MGA as these were expensive segments GUA-SAL-GUA (Taca, Aviateca) was $200 MGA-MIA was cheaper when I booked, $250. So, that was that...it did take a lot of playing around on Travelocity. In the end my Travel Agent booked it and knocked another $10 or $20 off, I'm not sure how. Good luck! |
vandykes4: according to my understanding of the various comments made, this is what you will have to pay:
USD25 for your flight to Quito, unless you stay within the airport and within the transit area, in which case nothing; 10 soles (about USD 3) for your flight to Cuzco (same thing at Cuzco for return flight); USD25 for flight back to Miami (since you are flying from Cusco rather than an international origin point, the fact that you are in transit will not help you) You should not ahve anything to pay in Quito since you come back the same day. |
Lima airport tax. If you leave the airport to stay in Lima you will need to go through passport control. I was told that once you have your passport stamped, then you must pay the $25 departure tax when you get your boarding pass for the next international flight. The entry way to the boarding gates has an electronic device which reads your tax stamp so you can't get back to the international departure gates without the $25 tax stamp.
When you get your boarding pass for Cusco you must pay a $4 tax before you can proceed to the gate area. In Cusco you have to pay $4 to go back to Lima. In Quito, after you have your boarding pass, and if you are leaving the same day you arrived, you can get a tax waiver for in-transit passengers. I stayed in a hotel for the day and did not have any problem getting the transit waiver because I flew out on the same date. |
dhacker, I did fly on ACES not Saeta on the UIO to LIM route but too got 2 boarding cards. I would love to help if you want let me know what info you want I will help.
On another note, I would strongly suggest making a copy of all of the tickets on individual sheets of paper with your LP# on them. I have put My LP# at the top then copied the ticket onto the page and on my return I have attached all the boarding cards to the copied sheets. So when I send in the stubs they will have all the documentation and LP #'s attached LP will need in one package. BSL |

HELP !!!
All my wife and are missing for the 500k miles are the car rentals with Avis. From USAirwyas I found out that a lot of agents are not aware/familiar of their company participation in the LatinPass program. I would appreciate any help om how about making sure that when we do our car rentals (2 differnet locations, at different times)our Latinpass number gets put on the car rental agreements. Does anybody have any experiences with AVis ???. I call and tried get my Latinpass acc number in my car rental reservations and the agent said that If he puts the Latinpass option it was changing my rate from $44,99 to $65.00. I have in the past gotten miles with Avis on CO/ UA / DL and never heard of such a thing, that depending the airlines you want the miles to go to, to change your rate, but I always just provide my ff number at the pick up location, If anybody can help, it would be great, BTW the pickup date is sunday Jun 4, in two days !!! Thanks [This message has been edited by MileSmiles (edited 06-02-2000).] |

MileSmiles:
Reserve with Avis as you normally would. When you get to the counter tell them you want to get LatinPass miles and have them enter LP and your number. It shows up on your rental agreement and it shows up on your final receipt. This way you get the good rate and credit at the same time. I rented from Avis in Seattle and St Louis. Both times, the counter agent had not heard of LatinPass, but when they entered the initials LP in the airline code space, the credit appeared. ------------------ |
Hi..I'm hoping that Distancia will have found my membership valid before march 20th and I'll be set...but do you think you could email me the exact info concerning the best possible way i can do this? I'm sorry to bother you but I'm not sure what the 15k means..I can use mileage from American if necessary but I'd rather just pay and go for it...thank you, ster Originally posted by toppshelff: I've had some interest in my sub $1400 +15K CO miles = million mile run. Jabulani,
I believe that being a member of Distancia does qualify you to participate in the Latin Pass Bonus. Quote from LP site "Terms and Conditions: Members enrolled in LatinPass or in any of the LatinPass Member Airlines participating programs from March 20th, 2000 or after will not be eligible for this promotion." Since you were a member of a Member airline program before March 20th I would think that you qualify. I read somewhere that Distancia members are automaticaly members of Latin Pass. I am not an expert however and I would claify the situation with LatinPass, before spending a great deal of money. |
vandykes4: Flyingdutchman is correct, just drop the exclamation point in the address. The correct address is "" I accidentally typed in the "!" rather than the "@", as they are right next to each other. Sorry for any confusion.
