fabsco --

15 minutes is not enough time for a connection in MGA. Even if you are just connecting to another flight, you have to go through immigration, and as another person has noted, the departure times seem to be merely guidelines. 15 minutes in GUA or SAL wouldn't be a big problem, but MGA is the place to allot extra time.

leroy11 Mar 5, 2000 5:34 pm

15 mins. - are you mad?? From my (limited) experience of air travel in Latin America, punctuality is not their strong point. I'm allowing a minimum of 2 hrs. to connect.

seeyou Mar 5, 2000 5:54 pm

After reading all the posts on LP ,I'am off for the 500k run on May 6 - 8.
The one question is ,does TRIP.com charge $10 per each int'l paper ticket ,or just the $ 10 FedEx delivery ?

fabsco Mar 5, 2000 6:05 pm

I was not saying that i thought that 15 minutes was enough time, just that is what the OAG book indicates. But in reality she will not be "changing flights" in the hour as it is on the same plane. Flight 514. I have never been to the airport but i believe that it is VERY small. I have also found that the book often overestimates time to connect. ie 2 hours 30 minutes for internation to domestic at lax?

ejulber Mar 5, 2000 7:24 pm

MauiGirl,

With six of the airlines already in your itinerary, why bother with Taca 514/NICA?

We're going the same itinerary as you, but Taca 311 MIA-SAL 1650-1736
Aviateca 960 SAL-GUA 1825-1910

Balance of the trip is identical.

We're leaving MIA April 9th and returning the 11th to MIA.

I see that MauiGirl has lim-uio on ACES listed as a SAETA flight and it has been mentioned elsewhere on the board that this will count but I am wondering if any one hase this in writing through email etc. I am leaving on Friday March 10 for my million mile run and have a SAETA ticket that is no good if the ACEs flight counts I will work it in but I have been waiting to hear back from LatinPass to confirm that this counts. If some one does have it in writing could they forward it to my email. Thanks

Student,

Would you mind posting your 1M itinerary? I've got a nice 500K worked out but was having difficulty piecing together a good 1M... Thanks and buena suerte!

As per LATINPASS, UIO/LIM or LIM/UIO on ACES will count towards SAETA segment. No other ACES flight will qualify for this segment. However, as soon as SAETA starts operating again, ACES will no longer qualify.

Can you post or E-mail me your 1M-itenerary.

Thanks for all of your advice. Given what, to me, looked like a very unlikely chance of catching my next flight out of MGA I have added a day and rearranged my schedule a little. Pricewise it was within dollars of the other run and leaves a minimum of two or more hours between each flight. Also, ejulber, the reason I have #514 Taca (Nica) in there is that I am stronly considering adding on what I posted above at a later date and doing the million.
3/18 MIA-MGA TACA #514(NICA), MGA-GUA COPA #318
3/19 GUA-SAL AVIATECA #961, SAL-SJO TACA #623
3/20 SJO-BOG LACSA #691, BOG-CCS AVIANCA #78(there is a #76 that leaves earlier, but it was booked)
3/21 CCS-MIA, Aeropostal #500

ejulber Mar 6, 2000 1:14 pm

MauiGirl,

Now the NICA segment makes sense.

If you have time at the conclusion of your run, please let us know about your hotels, etc. in GUA and CCS.

Well I will be going this weekend. I will try to figure out real connection times for the different airports. I will be in GUA, SAL, MGA, PTY, and BOG.

1) Those who buy single tickets which include segments on different carriers should confirm with Latin Pass that this is allowable. I'm not sure but I did read a blurb on the website which suggested that "codesharing" tickets won't necessarily apply (not sure what that means but it sounds suspicious).

2) Who runs Latin Pass? I spoke to a woman at the 1-800 number and she didn't seem to know the exact rules. My impression, it's based in Latin America (which would make disputes and such next to impossible to pursue).

3) My hunch, the program is legit but if July 1 comes around and they've dug themselves into a hole they'll ditch the thing after one year's notice or partner airlines will start dropping out (eg. KLM). But that's just a guess. It's also quite possible they'll just never offer such a promotion again.

Comments?

Since this there does some to be interest someone here should get the lowdown on the precise rules and who is responsible. I wouldn't buy a split ticket on a hunch.

Is anyone overnighting in BOG any of the nights 3/21, 3/22, 3/23. or 3/24? I'll be there on a business trip and would love to connect with anyone doing the LatinPass mileage runs.
