Justin,
Never have lived in NJ. I have posted in here a few times under same name. Do you know someone that was posting similar questions? Just curious.

I thinkthat if you are of a member of the primium level of a airline you should automaticly be upgraded to first class even if your free ticket was free if the airline values you as acustoomer

Rudi Oct 13, 1998 1:34 pm

roberto: under which name you ever appear here, you are more than welcome to me (as long as you have not to many postings ...). And I am convinced, that under another psydonym (what is the correct word for this in english?) you are already making interesting and many valuable contributions here. And why shouldn't we go on guessing who is behind roberto?

what is your answer to my (earlier) invitation for the award-ceremony?

Hi RiceChek... don't be afraid to post
important questions about Frequent Flyer
travel (as long as they don't get silly.)

Your's was a very good question. I learned
when trying to upgrade on a trip to Australia
on UA several years ago I could not. Coach
was fine. So the 99 44/100th's percent no
is correct.

BUT... what you could do is maybe ask your
airline (Continental?) the night before departure or at the gate if there are upgrades available. Is this a special trip?
(Honeymoon, family reunion, child getting married?) then there's the remote chance if
you are nice you might get an upgrade.

After the AUssie experience I try to get a
coach fare and use miles or upgrade certificates to upgrade if I'm not so already.

HOpe this helps.

And Justin... don't give Aubie any Human food
(even Pizza!) Some could be toxic to cats!
We want Aubie to contribute here for the rest
of his nine lives! CATMAn

Thanks Catman! Not a special event, but a vacation, which is always a special event I do believe, but not enough to convince airline personnel probably! Thanks for your feedback, and I do subscribe to the adage that one attracts flies better with honey than they do with vinegar, so I will be nice!

RiceChex, Welcome aboard! Sorry about the
answer's to your question, but I am Gold Elite on CO and have tried to upgrade a free
ticket, but to no avail. The best I have done is give them my card at check-in and
the agent entered my OnePass number and I got mileage credit for the trip. As far as
Rudi's suggestion, I believe CO has only 1st class and coach on the Belize flight from Houston. Your best chance to upgrade is to
"spread the honey" in San Diego and hope they upgrade you all the way. Your chances on the return are very slim & none.

Rudi - correct word, close on the spelling. It is actually spelt pseudonym --> go figure. Have fun at the Niners game. Unfortunately I will be relegated to the couch for my viewing pleasure.

jaws43 Oct 16, 1998 3:02 pm

Dear Rudi T.Crazy--It's "spelled".

baobab Oct 17, 1998 9:45 am

Rudi, TC, Jaws... Travelcrazy, being an ex-African, speaks something approaching British English. It's 'spelt'. ('Spelled' is not incorrect, but it isn't in common use east of the Atlantic)

baobab Oct 17, 1998 9:49 am

'Spelled' may be used as in 'He spelled (something) out' i.e. "He made his point very clearly", whereas words are 'spelt'.

Rather a diversion on the semantics trail, but not really wortby of an emmett/nancy award, as spelling is fairly low on their list of priorities!

baobab Oct 17, 1998 9:50 am

'worthy'

jaws43 Oct 17, 1998 4:29 pm

You know, baobab, British-wise, you are correct. In the US, "spelt" is mostly considered a colloquism.

QuietLion Oct 17, 1998 5:40 pm

Actually, this isn't so much a question of "semantics"... it's really "diction." (ducking)

Catman Oct 17, 1998 8:35 pm

I go this distressing message on my machine from a friend... "Why couldn't I get upgraded like you do all the time!"

First, He's an "ordinary" Continental One
Pass member. He's also flying on a free ticket so I told him he can't before he left.

I don't think you can upgrade on any free tickets with any of the airlines. If there is
a way, then can someone tell me (A LEGAL WAY,
I will NEVER go against the rules.)

ALso: Thank you for all for the grammar/semantics lesson. Maybe this is worth another Omni postings since we were talking about upgrades on frequent flyer tickets here...

Ok, Professor Catman is going to recess!
CATMAN
Which brings me to this distressing message
I got on my machine from a friend... "Why
couldn't I get upgraded like you do all the time!"

Catman Oct 17, 1998 8:37 pm

Sorry about the "nancy-like" writing on this
late message. I had problems with editing
and pasting and YAZ hit the send button before I can edit.

Thus the repeated message on the bottom and
a few misspellngs. I will do better next
time. CATMAN
