Reading about the pudding was a terrific idea! Please explain about American Airline's one million miles and the benefit versus accumulating it just flying.

Darien-l Dec 20, 1999 7:29 pm

Hi Pudding Guy!

I'm curious if you heard about the pudding from my earlier posts (in http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/001617.html ) or if you found out about it on your own. When I discovered the 25 cent puddings back in August, I thought about doing much what you did - buying dozens of cases and cashing in the miles. Unfornunately, my local Grocery Outlet only had a few cases, and I don't have a car so I couldn't go to other stores! Ah, the frustration!

I'm in the zero HC miles club with Catman.

Pudding Guy's scheme, if legit, is certainly worthy of admiration... but I'd like to see some of those pictures of the cases of pudding. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Most likely, not even Bill Cosby ever had that much pudding! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Miles AND status -- terrific Pudding Guy! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

This will make some real frequent flyers fume!

Pudding Guy, you are the true mile king with this labor of love! Congratulations! If only I had known about the pudding deal, I might have attempted something similar. At a cost of about .2 cents/mile, I'm surprised you didn't buy more!

PuddingGuy:
It seems that you have caught everyones attention. It is a great and interesting way to earn miles and also get that tax write-off. I have been looking for ways to getting money back from the government and to keep from paying taxes in April...maybe this will help and get me miles also....

One question....I haven't read any information about the program so I will ask now.....Do they count as base miles?

Darien-l, I'm a relative newcomer to Flyertalk. I stumbled onto the pudding in May. I started off rounding up soup for $0.59 each. I found a case of pudding after combing about 8 stores looking for the lowest priced Health Choice item.

After that discovery, I used the Grocery Outlet web site to locate all the stores within about 200 miles of me and planned a route to inspect each. I found some pudding at nearly every store. It was funny to see people's reactions. Most were very perplexed seeing me load two & three shopping carts full of chocolate pudding. My standard response when people asked why I was buying all that pudding? A serious look and "Y2K."

When I placed my order with the local owner, his records showed 102 cases were available from the central warehouse. I only ordered 60 because my wife was already a little unhappy with me about this "pudding deal" and the money I'd spent. You have to realize that nearly everyone I told about this back then was skeptical that it would all work out...

As for the photos, I did take several, including one with with me and the pile of 500-mile certificates. When I get a chance, I'll send one in.

Regarding how the miles are counted, that varies based on the company. American doesn't count them towards elite status, other than to count them towards the lifetime million miles.

Wow. Holy pudding Batman! Here I was all smug in the knowledge that I earned well over 100,000 miles (at a cost to me of...$0.00) back when PlanetAll was offering miles and the Pudding GURU of MILES puts me in my place. WOW!!! I salute you, Pudding!

this is the silliest and most wonderful thing i've ever heard. being a member of the "no healthy choice miles earned" club, i'm in total awe.

and yet, being an internet skeptic, i must admit, the story sounds pretty fanciful. i'm with richg; i'd love to see some photos or other documentation.

but the story is well-told and has all the right details, so even if not true - i'm still in awe.

either way, kudos pudding guy!

(and thanks to toppshelff for posting this in another forum; i never would have stumbled in here without the link.)

Kudos! I am also among the "no Healthy Choice" contingency but it never occurred to me to donate them to the Food Bank or Second Harvest...It is so much work, though, and I cannot believe you drove as many as 200 miles to a Grocery Outlet, much as I love them myself! So, let's see...the monetary value of 1,200,000 miles is about $20K. Was it worth it??? Just for the fame, if nothing else, I'm sure. Better show up for the FAQ so we can all congratulate you in person!

Pudding Guy, nothing personal, but we are a skeptical lot on these boards! Your story is so amazing that a picture (and perhaps a copy of your AA statement with the mileage postings) would be most appreciated so we can "verify" your claim.

As they say, the proof is in the pudding!

Pudding Guy Dec 21, 1999 1:31 pm

For all you skeptics, I just mailed in a few photos. I'm not sure how long it'll take Flyertalk to post them.

l etoile Dec 21, 1999 6:29 pm

I loved your story pudding guy. Perhaps the thing I love most about this board, is that just when my family and friends think I've gone over the edge in what I will do for miles, I read a post like yours and it lets me know I'm not alone in my wackiness. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
