Here's the thing ... if ORD-China were such a good idea, UA could do it since they are one of the carriers that already have rights to fly to China (do they serve that market already)?

doc Jan 5, 2000 6:27 pm

Done. Thanks burkey.

Dont mind AA, like China and LOVE COMPETITION!

US is using and expanding SFO as its trans-pac gateway (now to Seoul, Shanghai, and soon Beijing).

indogulf Jan 5, 2000 7:26 pm

kyklin - i'm think you mean UA since US doesn't have aircraft that could make it to China nor do they have route authority. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

My unresponsive and less-than-agile little finger must have pressed the S button which is a close neighbor of the A button! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif UA it is! Thanks for the correction indogulf.

Looks like they are trying to give NW a run for their money (with NW's existing Detroit to Beijing service)

Did you see how much cargo could be carried each flight? Wow. I was really surprised by that.

Echoing a theme of "More travel, more trade, more opportunity," American Airlines today filed additional comments to the US DOT in support of its application for flights to China.

Yet another way to grow our trade deficit.

Quote: Just another way to increase our trade deficit.

I just can't help myself to jump in here even though not related to passenger travel or FF programs, but the stament above is not accurate at all. 17 tons of cargo/flight. Do planes only fly one direction? It seems one would have to look at the relative value of the trade going in both directions. I think this shipping opportunity for US companies could be a great advantage especially if permanent normal trade relations with China is passed. China has made some very big concessions and is a great largely untapped market of a very large percentage of the worlds population. OK--i'm jumping off my soapbox now back to FF discussions. Thanks for induldging me

steve100 - NW is also doing Detroit - Shaghai nonstop 4 times a week (I'm not 100% sure of the frequency)

doc Apr 7, 2000 2:55 pm

I believe their nonstop is only 2x week! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
4x if you include the return trips http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
