Do I need a LD carrier for tollfree calls?

Can someone advse whether I need a LD carrier to carry tollfree calls? So if I only have a local carrier, can I dial tollfree numbers?

If you do not designate a LDC, your local provider will assign one. Suggest you choose one meeting your needs and/or LD calling pattern.

If you have more than one line, your local carrier won't force you to take a LD on each one, but you'll still be able to make toll-free calls from your local-calls-only line (at least here in HI).

This may be cruel, but I realy don't understand the relevance to Flyer Talk.

Isn't "talk" in the phrase flyer talk. There's been a lot og talk about long distance carriers because they give out miles, and some threads have given people additional information about how to make cheaper long distance calls, which has been very helpful to many of us as those of us who travel usually have to make long distance call, either to where we are going, or to calling home. Actually I think it was here just yesterday, as a result of someone responding to this question than mentioned the rate with tti and ATN. As a result I found out that this person was getting cheaper rates with this service. As a result, I just called and got my toll free number reduced from 9.4 to 6.9 cents a minute, and my calling cart from 14.9 to 13.9 cents a minute. So LARRUDE, you can think what you want, this question and the resulting answers were very helpful and relevant to me. If you have no interest in a particular topic, then I would suggest, don't bother reading it and don't bother answering it. What might not be relevent to YOU might be relevant to someone else. If it should be under general talk, or omni I have no idea, but this is a new person, so welcome aboard and know most of us want to help one another.

Has anyone else noticed the tendency to "slam" other flyer-talkers for what some deem transgressions?

Who handed out all those badges?

Can we please get back to friendly chat and a spirit of helpfulness?

Dear All.
The mci rep that I used since December is better and she did it again on Tuesday.
1. I got 35 K for each of my 5 lines and all have started to post (32,520 total as of 3/22/00)I gave her a new account on Tuesday and there were no catches.
2. She watches my account for billing errors, if I catch them I email her the amount and the dates and why and she issues the credit I receive a letter in the mail confirming the credit. So far she has caught all the errors first. No more 2 hour calls to MCI
3. She uses a combination of codes for the miles so I get all the miles and I can email her and ask about my miles when ever I like.
Want more email her [email protected]
She was a great help to me!!!!!!

To answer Mangup's original question, no you do not need a LD carrier. Your local phone company will not assign one if you tell them you don't want one. I do not have a LD carrier as I dial "10-10" numbers instead. Yes, you can still dial toll free numbers without having a LD carrier.
