Best Airline for New Mileage?
Today, what is the best airline to use for accumulating mileage? I have low mileage accounts with several airlines, but have the opportunity to add to them. My choices are American, Delta or United. Which one of these three (or others) would be your first choice?

It depends on where you fly to the most. What city pairs do you most frequently fly?

Most frequent city pairs would be:
SFO or LAX to: NYC, DFW, MIA ------------------ Tom Lindemann |
Of the 3 you mentioned, AA would seem to be your best choice...especially with their strong presence in DFW & MIA.

I think it depends on your goal. If your goal is first class upgrades in addition to free flights, try Continental One-Pass. As soon as you make SILVER with them, you get all the upgrades you want, free.
If you are going SFO or LAX to MIA, it is just as easy to connect in Houston as it is at DFW. Continental also hubs in Newark (EWR) so you can get direct flights there, if that works for you. You can also earn miles on Northwest, America West and Alaska. The downside is that if you need to go SFO or LAX to DFW a lot, there isn't a direct flight. ------------------ Mark Robinson |
Don't just limit youself to the very obvious---look at all of the alliance partners. Britsh would be an excellent choice if you have family members that might be travelling as they are the only one that offers a family account with pooled mileage. The other question to ask is how many miles do you anticipate you will be racking up per year? Not all elite levels are equal.
