hotels- lifetime elite

why don't hotel chains steal a page from the airlines and offer lifetime elite status?

Karen2 Feb 23, 2000 11:18 am

Shhh. Some of them actually seem to but they do not talk about it...

MileKing Feb 23, 2000 11:54 am

Really, karen2? Perhaps you can enlighten us with which hotels and how you can get the lifetime status.

kyklin Feb 24, 2000 6:51 pm

Either Karen2 is talking about a unpublished VIP level or she is referring to the Y2K problem Hilton had which issued elite cards with expiration date of 2099!

I was wondering the same thing, did a search and found this thread! Yeah! My search worked!

Since this was last active several years ago, I would like to renew the question. Is anyone aware of any hotel chains that offer lifetime status?

hnechets Aug 22, 2005 2:17 pm

sonora, you might want to take a look here for some Marriott tidbits ----> \http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=338849

I don't know about other programs, but for Marriott, you can pull up other threads by searching in the Marriott forum using the search keyword "emeritus."

Enjoy!

Starwood offers lifetime Gold or Platinum to anyone who buys a SVO timeshare. Which level you get depends on how much you buy.

fijaircan Aug 22, 2005 10:29 pm

Hilton gave me (and my wife) lifetime VIP GOLD status after we purchased a villa at Hilton Fiji.

Did you purchase it in Fiji or thru some service?

Hyatt has Lifetime Diamond status. No, I don't have it!

Marriott has an Emeritus level

I don't know the exact levels, and I couldn't pull up the link from the message above.

I believe it goes something like

Plat Emeritus
3 Million points
12 years elite
? years plat.
1200 nights plat

Gold emeritus
still 12 years elite other levels lower

Silver emeritus
still 12 years elite other levels lower

Corrections...additional info, anyone?

What does the emirtus status do for you?

Westin Premier had this after 5 years at top status. I received this distinction and then Westin joined Marriot as Starwood Preferred and it disappeared.

Emeritus is just Marriott's term for lifetime status. You get the same bennies as a regular Silver/Gold/Plat.

BigLar Aug 23, 2005 2:50 pm

I have permanent Silver status with Hilton as long as I hold their AMEX card. Since it's a no annual fee card, that's a no-brainer.

If I run $20K a year through the card (also not that difficult -- man, I run everything through a credit card! :)), I get Hilton Gold status. There's a rumor that spending $50K a year on the card gets you Diamond.

Not as nice, but certainly cheaper than buying a timeshare in Fiji.

I'm a lifetime Hyatt Gold member. :)

Intercontinental Royal Ambassador is lifetime!

If you reached the Royal Ambassador tier with Intercontinental you are RA as long as you pay every year the renewal fee of $100,- and you are gold or platinum member in priority club (this I dont know for shure...)

That would be Westin and Sheraton. This also points out one of the perils of "lifetime" status. But five years? That's way too easy. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Details? (Without them, the post is not so helpful.) :)

Of course the Hilton and Starwood "life" membership for timeshare or condo ownerwhip is good only as long as one continues to hold that "investment." Likewise holding the Hilton Amex credit card -- a program that is not guaranteed to run in perpetuity, but which I hold anyway. ;)

Sorry ... it was a joke. Gold is the Hyatt basic level.

peteropny Aug 24, 2005 7:25 pm

Hyatt has Lifetime Diamond - given if you've been Diamond for 10 consecutive years and have earned 1,000,000 base points.

OOPS!!! Thanks for the correction. I was reading something on the Marriot and must not have gotten out of the "Marriot mode"! :D

Actually, you get the status in conjunction with owning the timeshare property. If you sell it, lapse on maintenance fees, etc., you don't keep the status. So it's not truly "lifetime" status, just a companion benefit.
