Atlanta doesn't have much inclement weather?! Have you ever been there in the afternoon, DW?

Mileking showed why it is easier to upgrade on Delta. They don't comp the midlevel easily. Fortunately; for a Delta Gold Medallion.

Have you considered keeping your airline and changing your employer?

Great point.

Any employer who doesn't let their people take CO out of EWR should be fired.

However, if the routes overlap Delta is the way to go because elite Delta status earns the appropriate mileage bonus on Air France and AeroMexico. UAL premiers earn no such bonus on partner flights.
UA's website indicates that you do receive the bonus on LH-operated codeshares under the current program. The 2000 program details are not yet posted, however, so perhaps this is changing next month...?

the lh-code share points are mute because you have no choice out of ewr to germany. all direct flights are lh operated. in the end you are still buying a ua coded ticket. what gets me about this is that the same doesn't hold true for any other *a carrier? why is an lh operated code share woth more than all the others? sounds like ua doesn't want to be bothered revenue sharing with their other partners. you gold and platinums are the ones being ripped off. especially if you go to the trouble of buying the ticket coded as ua, you should at least get the status bonus. is it your fault they don't operate direct to scandinavia, etc?

milesandpoints: I can empathize with your situation. My employer has the same policy with UA, DL, TW, and US. However, there is a loop-hole that may also exist for you.

If we choose a route with a connection, it is compared with a route with a connection within one hour on the preferred airlines. The same comparison is made for non-stop. IF you play it right, you can always find a CO/HP/NW/AS route that is cheaper. Just an idea for you.

And now . . .

Any new thoughts on this, given the UA/CO merger and the rumored changes to Delta's FF program?

I thought it got relevant again. We could see which group of FTers could complain the hardest.

Maybe it's time to either start a new thread or search for some more recent and relevant discussion on the topic of your interest?
