Delta's New Web Site
Has anyone here seen Delta's new web site? I was on it today and it's pretty slick. You might want to try it out at www.delta-air.com...
|
Alright already, did you have to post this in every forum! Give us a break.
|
It is pretty cool. That's one thing you can depend on with DL, improvement in IT.
|
Come on Mark, you know I'm a big DL fan, but fact of the matter is there's nothing new on the website ... it does make it easier to get to the information though than on the old website ... I'm still waiting for online award booking ... and M, B, Y for international reservations ...
|
I agree with Beckles (although I detest DL since I live in ATL) that there really doesn't seem to be much that's new. This version had been online for quite sometime at http://new.delta-air.com/. I might use other words starting with s to describe it. They still don't even offer flight paging. As always, they've proven they're always several steps behind their competitors.
|
DL's website is OK, but I really can't find anything that special about it. I have found a lot of links on the website which don't work, and they still lack seat pitch info on their seat maps.
|
Isn't there a flight paging section on the front page Carl?
I have to say from a quick glance I have to agree with Beckles - but lets hope they have added the back end functionality to introduce improvments shortly. I would really like to see the international upgrade option as well. Also, the new site looks much worse than the old one. Take a look at the instructions under 'reservations'... can you actually read text that small? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif [This message has been edited by james (edited 02-11-2000).] |
Now wait a second ... I said they added nothing new ... their old functionality that is on the new site is still better than most other airlines sites ...
* Instant posting of mileage to the website * Ability to purchase and request upgrades on the website * Fast and easy booking engine (faster than those on most other airlines websites, SW being the only one that is comparable IMO). * Ability to view all future itineraries, regardless of how they were booked (as long as your SkyMiles number is on them). As for seat pitch information, it looks like they screwed up, because that information was on the old website, but is not on the new website ... |
I have asked that all additional threads posted by "Dockster" be deleted as they are related to "Delta's New Web Site", as I think one is enough. We are always a little suspicious when someone out on nowhere comes on, quickly posts in 7 places, an email advertisement to a commercial site, does not list their email address and dissapears. By deleting the others, at least the topic of Delta's new re-design can continue to be debated as shown by the above responses to the thread. Again, one post would have been sufficient.
Thanks to essxjay for assisting on tracking these 6 commerical emails. We are not doing this to "edit" FlyerTalk but to try and make sure that it remains as "commercial free" as possible. [This message has been edited by Randy Petersen (edited 02-11-2000).] |
Thanks Randy!
|
Very reasonable move. Thanks Randy.
The Delta new web interface is a copy cat of UA's. Maybe there's a hint there. |
mntblue, the hint is obviously too subtle for me...
Beckles, I agree DL's use of the internet is a cut above most other airlines - I don't see that as any reason to be complacent or to stop adding new features/making improvments. |

Maybe I'm wrong... what exactly do you mean by flight paging? I took it to me tracking of todays/yesterdays flights...
|
Thanks Randy for deleting the extra posts...
I've purchased two tickets this week on the DL site, and a lot of my requests and that of others in a message thread from last month still exist. See http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum21/HTML/000602.html Also, if you subscribe, the WSJ did an article on the site February 3rd entitled "Delta Air's New Web-Site Design Doesn't Take Off,Top Fliers Say". Finally, James, flight paging (see www.ual.com as an example) allows you to be notified via phone, pager, email, etc. when a flight lands. www.thetrip.com also offers this. It's pretty cool when it works. [This message has been edited by jeffreyt (edited 02-11-2000).] |
Originally posted by james: Maybe I'm wrong... what exactly do you mean by flight paging? I took it to me tracking of todays/yesterdays flights... The reason for the frustration is that DL publicly announced they'd be adding this by last Fall but have offered no apologies or explanations for the long delay. |
jeffreyt: Thanks for the info on TheTrip.com Flight Alert service. The interface is a bit clunky (3-character airline abbreviations? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif ) and there doesn't seem to be an option to track departures, but it looks like it has potential.
I just tested it on a Horizon flight landing now in PDX to see how it works. It wouldn't let me enter the correct arrival time since it thinks today is the 12th even though it's the 11th there. Bottom line: it didn't really work at all. It sent me an email right at 11:29p (the scheduled arrival time) telling me the flight arrived even though it would still be in the air for 11 more minutes. I want to test this further to see if maybe it works with some airlines and not others. I'd love for it to really work! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by Carl (edited 02-12-2000).] |
The new Delta web site is a little more exciting than it was before.
|
Thanks jeffery, Carl
|
If it doesn't give senior discounts, then it is no better than before.
|
And more...for the sake of parents wanting to book flights for their kids to visit other parent, grandparents, etc., drop the requirement that the cardholder must fly.
|
Karen, the main reason, as you probably know, that DL does not allow you to purchase tickets online for other people has been because of fraud. But you know, that doesn't make sense anymore, because if DL makes you sign using a PIN Number with your ff #, then that would be authenticating your id. They should then allow you to go to an area called "Purchase tickets for others" or something like that.
|
Karen, I was not aware that Delta does not allow to buy tickets on line for somebody else. In the past I've done it many times with SouthWest and Alaska. Also, I think I bought a ticket on line from UA for my friend, although we traveled together on that trip.
From your experience, how many other airlines have this stupid rule for the on line purchases? Delta only? Does anybody know? |
It's not a stupid rule, if it prevernts some credit card fraud then it's an excellent idea. If you want to buy a ticket for someone else, use a CTO, travel agent or ring the airline. The online purchasing bonus is a bonus with terms and conditions like any other. I really wish people would stop treating these things as if they have a divine right to them. If you don't like Delta's policy, fly United.

We do! We do! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

And you're very welcome to it http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
