New Airline from DAL

Legend Airlines will begin service from Love Field (not to be confused with Lovell Field, aka CHA http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif)to LAX and Dulles on Leap Year Day. Las Vegas to follow. Service is on DC-9s, reconfigured to 56 business-class seats (to meet the Wright Amendment rules). I priced a 14-day non-refundable roundtrip to LAX at $314.

FF bonus: Sign up and fly one roundtrip by the end of May to be placed in Founders' Club--double miles for life! They have the usual Web booking bonus, plus car partners (50 miles on Hertz or Avis, must be with a flight), a hotel (Wyndham for 500, no flight requirement), and Boston Coach. Miles are redeemable for flights on Legend or Delta.

For planespotters, the tail is blue, with a gold/white star resembling Prodigy's logo.

Ahh, Love Field. My favorite airport. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Best of luck to 'em!

I have to admit that Delta has one of the best partner networks.. alot of ways to earn miles... indirectly, it allows me to use those miles on UNited... so all is good http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I dont know about those smaller planes, but i'd rather be on a Southwest 737 jet. The only reason why their fares are low is because of Herb. Isn't that Wns' CEO's name?

Has there been a change in the Wright Admendment that allows these airlines (Legend, AA, and others) to fly from Dallas Love Field?

According the SWA:

Travel into and out of Dallas Love Field is subject to the limitations of the Wright Amendment. Federal law prohibits Southwest from offering for sale, or providing transportation between, Dallas Love Field and any point beyond Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Mississippi, and Alabama. see: http://www.iflyswa.com/traveler_info/wright.html
So, what has changed which allows these airlines to fly beyond the Federally Mandated area of service?

Steve100- Sorry, I thought this was "common knowlege" so I did not post it.

A Fed Appeals Court allowed carriers to provide service "anywhere" provided they adhere to certain restrictions. This upheld a DOT ruling allowing LD flights limited to 56 pax. This Wright ststute forbids Love field flights beyond Texas but excludes flights with less than 56 pax!

AMR and Ft Worht had suedDallas argued long haul flights would violate bond convenants. Again the dispute was "inspired" by Legend Air and their efforts to fly out of Love Field.

Now, AMR will also begin service to/from Love (ORD & LAX) on May 1, 00!

Not only that, but Legend boasts of a new terminal on the east side of Love Field, instead of using the existing gates currently used by Southwest, American and Continental.
