selling ff miles

has anyone sold ff miles? what do you think they can be sold for?
ie. 200,000 Delta, 25,000 American

The airlines sell ff miles and that's all they want to sell ff miles. Anything else is seen as an abrogation of your agreement with them. Check the fine print. You could lose your miles if caught.

mevans-

Despite the dire warnings you may hear from other posters on this board, it is HIGHLY unlikely you'll get caught.

I'd say an average of 1.5 to 2.5 cents per mile is the going rate. You can sell to local small companies who don't want to pay the full fare of say, HSV to LGA = $800+. Your 25,000 @ $400 makes both of you very happy.

Just some thoughts...not advocating it. But, they are yours to do with as you wish.

I've NEVER done it and probably never will. The risk reward ratio just does not pan out!

I have seen offers on e-bay, which appear to be people auctioning off award tickets they are able to request for third parties.

Our lawyer friends can correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think that it is illegal (it is risky though).

I have never done this... but I have traded with friends and collegues.. especially those who needed to fly on United or if I needed an American parnter's award,etc.. then we swap miles.. or awards... neat concept.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

But I have not sold anything, but am tempted with these UA Systemwide upgrades LOL!

There are always a few auctions on E-bay for ff award tickets ... the prices they get are pretty good too, so that might be your best bet. Check out the "Travel" category on E-bay.

Saw some pretty outrages offers on ebay for ff miles-and upgrade certs-hope this does not have a negative effect on us ff's who prefer to trade or gift our upgrades and miles to other ff's. Bad karma, but I guess everything has a price.

PG: Years ago, on Compuserve, there was a debate about whether this practice (selling awards) was actually "illegal". Some broker offered 2 first class tickets if anyone could show it was illegal. As might be expected, he didn't honor his offer. However, I "won" the bet by showing a law, which has been on the books in California for about 70 years, which makes it a criminal act.
