I don't believe that full-fare travel earnings have increased nearly enough to offset award chart inflation. Credit card signup bonuses have kept pace and more.

I'm not big into opening a credit card to gain instant miles via a bonus. With programs like virgin atlantic dropping economy, but raising business/first, but increasing miles earned for flying in premium cabins, it keeps things fair, regardless of how the award charts changed.
