I decided to go to the Windy City for a weekend after thanksgiving ( Fri-Sun ), last night http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.

A little bit too late for a good airfare and a little bit too late for a good hotel rate.

So I decided to go by a car ( ~10h of driving ) and get a hotel room via Priceline.com

I bid ( now ... don't laugh ) .. $25!/night
for 2 nights at O'hare area.

I also got the $25 bonus by applying for a credit card, so my total bid was $50.

After 10 minutes !! I got an email stating the I'll be a guest of Marriott Chicago O'hare (4* hotel). A weekend stay for 2 night for $65 with taxes !!

I've used Priceline.com twice already and both bids were for hotel room in Chicago. Also both times I got Marriott Chicago O'hare.

I also have used priceline quite a few times and agree if you have the time to check all the hotel web sites they almost always have had as good a deal, or better than I bid with PL. One thing that I always forget when bidding with these guys is that the better downtown hotels always get me with a $20 parking fee that knocks a little off the value. I have bid for airline tickets a few times but have never been successful.

Is there anything like priceline for international hotels ( MEXICO)?

The UA flight I previously mentioned showed up for status miles in UA MP program.

I too came back from JFK-AMS-JFK with LH via FRA and got my miles credited to my ual account. it re-qualified me to premex. Only "problem" I did not get the 100% bonus miles.

I got JFK-LAX at the end of November on TWA for $150, with no bonuses.

dvrich1, if you are finding just as good deals on the hotel websites as what you are getting through Priceline, then it is very likely that you are way overbidding. I've had tremendous success with Priceline because I do my homework BEFORE bidding. I check to see what the lowest available rate for my travel dates at all the major chain websites is and then I bid accordingly. My best deal so far as to the amount I saved vs. the lowest available rate offered was for a 4 star hotel in the Michigan Ave. Chicago zone. I got the Renaissance for $160 when their website showed the only availability to be a $489 suite and no 4 star hotel in the area had an available rate under $300. I decided to stay one more day in Chicago, IL, so I made a bid for one night in ORD area for $38 ( I noticed that my Marriott stay was paid by Priceline.com with corporate credit card "MC" at $37/night )
Within one minute I got a hotel room at Four Points/Sheraton Chicago.

One more thing ...
I got points and stay credited to my Starwood account next day !!!

Damian, is the Four Points Sheraton ORD a 3 star? Was your stay a weeknight or a weekend? Did you happen to check to see what the lowest rate the hotel was charging for that night? If so, what was it?

You cannot bid on a particular hotel. You may want to check out Priceline's website (and Expedia's Hotel Price Matcher, as well) to see how it works. Please post any bidding-related questions to the Yahoo Club.

I just successfully bid $85 on Expedia for a four star and received the Crowne Plaza Union Square in San Francisco. Lowest non-government rate there for the same date is $149. Government rate, which I could have booked, is $129.

Obviously a nice savings and I'm happy, but this being my first time at this I found it a little uncomfortable to click on submit and cast my fate to the wind.
