Dec EyeSpy

'Tis the season to be jolly and earn miles. Give a wreath to 10 friends to earn 25,000 AAdvantage miles. Yes, it's true.
This month's EyeSpy winner comes from Jeff Feldman, who advises flyers to forget about buying fruit cakes and head to Garden.com where the wreaths are on offer. For every purchase of $25 or more at Garden.com, MyPoints awards 2,000 MyPoints, so 10 wreaths later you have 20,000 MyPoints.

Make sure you purchase your wreaths individually to take full advantage of this offer. As the wreaths hang on your friend's and family's doors your MyPoints can be converted into 25,000 VacationMiles which can in turn be converted at a 1-to-1 ratio into AAdvantage miles.

Flyers can thank Jeff and since it's the season of goodwill, 1,000 ClickMiles will be wired to you.
According to the MyPoints site, there is a sliding scale of point accrual depending on the amount of purchase. I am familiar with the EyeSpy tip, but I beleive it's only available by receiving the BonusMail email. At least that is what MyPoints customer svc told me, as I contacted them several weeks ago, telling them I knew of the bonus, but didn't receive that particular BonusMail offer, and wanted to know how I could take advantage of the offer.

Is there another link on the MyPoints site I don't know about?

Mmmm... Not that I know of!

So far, once a season I have received the offer of 2,000 MyPoints for a $25 Garden.com order. The last one expired Nov. 25. It didn't occur to me to make multiple orders, I just figured this was only available once. Something to check on next time.

To make sure you receive the offer in the future, go to your profile section on the MyPoints site and where it asks for your interests, check every box. That way you'll get all the email offers. (A valuable tip I learned from another poster. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif )

I do have all the interestes&hobbies checked on my profile to ensure that I receive all offers. The surprising thing, is that after contacting MyPoints customer svc, requesting the link for the offer, they didn't send it to me, rather just telling my to fill out all the item in the profile. (Which already were checked)

I guess my points is, unless you have the link to use, this isn't available to everyone, hence not much of a tip...

By the way, letiole, have the 2,000 MyPoints for your Garden.com purchase been credited to your account yet?

Pam at Webflyer Dec 5, 1999 9:25 am

Greetings! My recollection of this EyeSpy is that we worked for several days to verify that you could indeed get the 20,000 points for separate wreath purchases through garden.com. We verified this information through a marketing contact at mypoints. I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone who has trouble claiming this bonus. Thanks.

burkey Dec 5, 1999 9:56 am

Pam -- That probably is true, that points can be earned on multiple purchases, however one cannot get the points without prior invitation (ie, having the link), this isn't a promotion that anyone can take advantage of.

Even as a MyPoints memeber, after contacting customer service asking to have the link for this offer, all I got was an answer to make sure that I indicated an interest in all product areas in my profile to ensure the maximum number of email offers.

I guess I'm not the left-handed, veggitarian, who prefers middle seats, with 20/20 vision who the marketing people targeted for this bonus offer.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

(Not that there's anything wrong with left-handers, veggitarians, those who prefer middle seats or those with perfect vision.)

Although I have never seen the bonus and can't answer the question of whether it is legitimate, I have my doubts if MyPoints was the source of information. I now have three e-mails that they have been lax in responding to, one of which is a month old. Others have noted a slew of issues with their program. I'm beginning to get the feeling that MyPoints will say almost anything to get people clicking and buying thru their site.

Pam, if Webflyer has contacts within MyPoints, how about doing us a favor by trying to uncover the real causes of the problems and what MyPoints is doing to fix it. That's My2Cents.

Before this gets turned into a MyPoints gripe thread, my intention was to question why this bonus was choosen as an "EyeSpy" since it is not generally available to anyone who chooses to take advantage of this offer. Was InsideFlyer lead to beleive otherwise?

Pam at Webflyer Dec 5, 1999 1:16 pm

Let me do a bit more investigation on Monday. I didn't work on this bonus personally but remember the discussions taking place with MyPoints. I'll let you know after I speak with the person who worked on this bonus.

FYI, though: I did have an email contact with someone at MyPoints last week and asked him about some of the problems experienced by people on this board. I haven't heard back, but I'll follow up again on Monday.

burkey, sorry, I don't want this to be (another) MyPoints gripe thread either. After I saw Pam at Webflyer's post, I didn't want to let the opportunity to potentially have WebFlyer address some MyPoints issues slip away.

Burkey, when I researched this EyeSpy I tried to think of every possible scenario of why a person may not get points with this promotion. I spoke to both MyPoints reps and garden.com reps and one of my many questions was in fact if you did not receive this email solicitation would you still be eligible. We were advised that the promotion will be honoured even if the person did not receive the email. However even though it is garden.com's policy to honour the promotion nothing automatically will happen to your MyPoints account, it has to be processed manually if you were not a recipient of this email. Call 800/466-8142 for manual processing.
I have also put a call in to see whether this policy has since changed.

Anne -- thanks for making the clairfication, I guess I'll cross my fingers and take the plunge..... thanks again.

l etoile Dec 10, 1999 7:49 am

Counsellor: A couple of months ago they had the same offer and I received the 2,000 points after emailing them a copy of my order confirmation. For the latest order, about three weeks have lapsed and I haven't received the points yet so I just emailed them that confirmation. Seems to be the trend here that nothing with MyPoints happens automatically.
