U.S. Travel Assoc Daily Getaways 2014

Looks like the annual Daily Getaways will start earlier then last year.

Updated link
https://dailygetaways.ustravel.org/Calendar.aspx

"Daily Getaways, a promotion of the U.S. Travel Association and American Express, will run every weekday from May 19 through June 20, 2014. The promotion will offer amazing travel offers at up to 50 percent off. Quantities are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. "

They really need to use some type of bidding system instead.

That is true, but still, if you can hit refresh on time, its worth the effort, I still find 3 or 4 things that are well worth the effort.

I'm guessing it's only available for US Citizens and Green Card holders right?

I think this would kill daily getaways for a lot of people. The selling point is the ability to get screaming deals. If you move to an auction system, those deals get turned into OK (at best) deals. It would be great for daily getaways / Amex, though.

Last year was a disappointment, and with MS, I'm already pretty well stocked with the programs I use most, so I'll probably forgo it this time.

Not to get too far OT, but here's an example of a bidding system that seems to still be providing some decent deals (and I think it's a charitable effort, as well).

However, note that most of the offerings here are in the higher-end of the travel spectrum. I agree that the target audience for the Daily Getaways stuff is likely a different crowd.

I'm still pretty happy about $50 Alamo certificates for $22 (w/Amex bonus), as usually Alamo ends up being a good option for my rental needs price-wise. And those are usually available for longer than 5 minutes, and don't require me to have 17 browser windows open and refreshing them constantly...

I'm not generally a Hilton fan but if you buy those giant bundles of points it's actually a pretty good deal, especially if combined with something like a Surpass discount.

With the changes in redemption rates and the point-to-mile conversion rates in a couple of programs, some offers should be easier to get this year because fewer people will be interested.

No , but it comes down to whether or not your bank card charge authorization clears -- and some foreign card issuers give more problems than others.

i'm not sure it's worth it especially with the devaluation. unless somehow they're selling 100k points for 150 bucks. then I'll buy.
