I got my first two sets of mypoints, but today I get " Connection Refused" whenever I hit thoints icon.

TravelWeary Sep 9, 1999 12:02 pm

Lurch: You are right. Everything is not well as I am having the same problem today.

The site is back up and working!

.....just got my 180 points for the day!

Grice Sep 9, 1999 3:33 pm

180 here!

Their server is CONSTANTLY jammed...if you get an error message, simply hit BACK and then click a 2nd time whatever you were doing when you got the error.

If you get it a bunch in a row, wait awhile and try later. Seems to work for me, but yes, you do get errors about their server...

THe offer is every 24 hours, so unless you are VERY punctual there is no way you will get 7 rounds of questions anwered and credited in one week. Every hour you are late past your 24 hour mark starts the clock ticking that much later....

I have been doing the surveys for Talk City also and at the same time running my ad banners and getting surf time on those at the same time for even better earnings in the end--My Points and $$$$$ for surfing. Woo-hoo!

venkat Sep 9, 1999 3:54 pm

It worked for me today. mypoints site was down yesterday evening and some of the servers that talkcity was linked to were down today morning I guess.

180 points have posted twice so far in as many days. let me see if it would post tomorrow.

Tino -- I'm not sure you're familiar with the mypoints program with the comments you made. It certanily is no milenet (or netmiles, I can never remember what the name was) or question.net.

mhorst Sep 9, 1999 6:53 pm

Burried in the bowels of Talkcity is another offer to get another 25 miles for setting up a homepage on their site. I managed to do it with as little effort as possible by only inputting my email address. I left everything else blank and hit the submit button and got 25 more points!

Hi all. Glad many people are using this tip. I love these boards.

Anyway, mypoints was down for awhile, I had trouble connecting all day yesterday, but it is working now.

Even though the survey says you voted already, you still get the points, just on the second or seventh vote it does not calculate into the totals.. but the points are added to your account.

Thanks for posting that press release.

there may be other hidden points in talkcity we havent found. to date -190 points for 19 surveys-daily, onnow link, 15 pts weekly, and make a homepage-25pts -once(I guess)...

Mypoints isn't a milenet (netmiles is Randy's 1,000 pt Tue/Thurs program, that's how i remember). MYPT is the Nasdaq symbol. If the talkcity points ever go away, there are other ways to get Mypoints, just look on the regular Mypoints site, some of those offers you may want to take advantage of anyway.

The vacation miles can be used for many things as Beckles notes, so not just AA miles, but I do think that is one of the best. Vacation miles also offers Delta and Continental miles, but i think they aren't allowed under mypoints' vacationmiles offer, but never hurts to ask vacationmiles direct once you have the certificate. Otherwise there are some airline/hotel certificates, merchandise, etc.

GRICE - and all- The 24 hour thing is a calendar day!!!! Not a real 24 hour period! You can answer all the questions at 1145pm and then at 12:01am start again, getting your 380 points in a half hour or less... Mypoints appears to be in a Mountain Time zone.

It takes 40 awards of 25K miles to get to AA million mile status, it takes about 100 days getting mypoints solely free (taking a few points from other offers to get 200 daily..) so in 4000 days, everyone here will be million milers and lifetime AA gold... hmmm we might get tired of those surveys before that... better add that 100K oneworld offer to get a boost... But seriously, this is just a fun way to get some points, you can always cash out early, the lowest mileage award comes at 1000 miles for 1,500 Mypoints, it increases to 1:1 at 5,000 miles/Mypoints.

There are other offers from Mypoints some may like, perhaps I should make a mypointsworkshop site... on talkcity for the 25 points...

I redeemed 5,000 VacationMiles earlier this year, and a couple of things to note. Only the awards listed on the MyPoints site are available for VacationMiles, not all of the awards listed on the VacationMiles site.

As for best value, I think there are some other ones that are pretty good values besides the AA miles, including the free ticket on DL (which I'm thinking may even earn miles since they probably buy it for you) and two nights at Hyatt + $100 AMEX gift check for 27,000 points looks pretty good too.

Reportedly airline tickets obtained through hotel points do not get miles, so I am not sure if the Delta ticket will get you miles. But if it does, it is a good deal.

Where is the onnow link that you were referring to on the talkcity site, tummyg?

couldn't locate it.

thanks!

Beckles

Once you have concevrted your mypoints into vacation miles who is to say where you got them from? If you had a sum of vacationmiles and wrote to vacationmiles asking that they be converted to continental miles how would vacationmiles know where they came from?

Unless of course that there are different types of vacationmiles? How do you tell the difference?

cheers Peter

Beckles Sep 12, 1999 11:11 am

ffhound, they do differentiate where the VacationMiles come from, when you get your certificate from MyPoints it will say "5,000 VacationMiles from MyPoints" and your award choices are restricted to the awards printed on the certificate you receive (the same ones shown on the MyPoints website).
