Comping Elite at Hotels

I am a platinum Hyatt member with diamond hopes... but due to a project change i won't be able to stay at Hyatts the rest of the year. Has anyone heard of hotels comping status like airlines do? One bit of leverage i have is that i will be staying 3 or 4 nights a week until march at least. Do you think Hilton or Marriott would hook me up?...

I don't know about Hilton or Marriott, but I went the other way...I was Diamond with Hilton and I called last December and Hyatt comped me to thier Diamond level. They had me fax in statements from Hilton and Sheraton (wehre I was gold.)
good luck

in the past, hilton has been pretty agreeable to comping silver or gold status (much to the consternation of existing elite hhonors members), but that may be changing now that there are more stringent qualification requirements.

in any case, i doubt very much that they would comp diamond status.

several years ago, the marriott in century city (los angeles) changed over to a park hyatt and hyatt comped me in as a platinum (or whatever level it is that's comparable to marriott gold) without even asking. no documentation was required, as they already had the records in their computer system.

your best bet may be to deal directly with the management of the property where you'll be staying the most, rather than the hotel's corporate frequent guest office. they may be able to make it happen for you if they're convinced your repeat business is worth the efffort.

it never hurts to ask ...let us know what they tell you.

Thanks for the info -- that was actually one of my next questions... does an individual property have the ability to comp status, or is that strictly a national office 800-number domain?

Who should I call??

I have in the past personally known about Hyatt and Hilton comping elite status to certain airline elite members (all members of a certain airline who had achieved a given elite level in the airline).

You are platinum with Hyatt. For that you think some hotel will comp you elite?? Good luck, you really have little loyality "value" to trade.

The suggestions to contact the hotel you will be staying out for "lets make a deal" is still a good one. IF you will be generating a lot of nights at one hotel, especially if they are running on the low side of the occupancy curve, then you stand a chance. Find out who is the General Mangager and pitch him/her, in person (on first stay) or my mail. You will not likely get a "status leveL" but you might be able to be treated as such when you stay there without the additional payment.

As to the discouragement in the first paragraph, do not let that keep you from trying, if you can stand the time and disappointment, good stuff sometimes does happen!!
