Maximizing points/miles for children to get lifetime status

What would be the most efficient path to having my kids get lifetime status by the time they are 18??

We have family in South America, so racking up circa 12k eqms a year each shouldn't be an issue.

Hotel wise, maybe book a room under the kids name to get them stay credit at my expense?

I figure what better gift than lifetime status at 18, right?

I wouldn't take the risk that the terms of any lifetime status program would be the same 5 years from now, let alone 18 years from now.

Just rember that it is the lifetime of the program not the lifetime of the kids.

If on the off-chance they did get lifetime status and the program stayed around through their adulthood, you can count on their lifetime Platinum status earning them a free soda with each flight, while the real status will be Super Elite Palladium-Rubidium by then.

That status is only available to credit card holders with $25,000 annual spend :D

Neat idea, but you should check the hotel's terms & conditions to be sure the program won't invalidate the stay credit if minors are not allowed to rent hotel rooms.

However as soon as they turn 18, you can make the a card holder on an AMEX account for a bit to establish their credit line date.

As for airlines, lifetime status means million miler I think, and it would take about 97 years to get there at 12k miles per year. However if you teach them about good credit and how to play the miles game, they will get lifetime status early in their life.

Good luck!
