There Really is a Star Alliance Plane!
I am sure you have all seen the ad for Star Alliance with the plane that has all of the airlines' logos on it.
I thought I was dreaming yesterday sitting on the tarmac at EWR when I saw it taking off. There really IS a plane that has all of the Star airlines on it. Even the FAs on my flight were amazed. |
Whose airplane was it? UA or SAS seem the most likely candidates at EWR.
|
At one time each Star Alliance carrier had one of these planes in it's fleet. I don't know if that's still true. I have personally seen Luftansa's, United's, and Thai's.
The following photo is of Thai's Star plane that I snapped in Bali last year: http://members.aol.com/premex/upload.../starplane.jpg |
All Nippon Airways (ANA) also has a Star Alliance aircraft - this 767 is painted differently than the earlier Star Alliance aircraft.
------------------ AlphaSigOU Causa latet vis est notissima - the cause is hidden, the results are well-known. |
The 'clue' to know who owns the plane it is to see which logo is on the front.
The owner always comes first! [This message has been edited by Austman (edited 08-30-1999).] |
I've seen a couple of the "real" one's as well. Thanks for the photo, PremEx. But, isn't the one that I've seen in the advertisements a bit longer than any real plane out there. Maybe it's a new 777-900???? http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I saw Thai's at BKK in January (a 767), United's at ORD last week (also a 767), and Lufthansa's at FRA last year (I don't remember what kind of plane, but it was 767-esque). I thought it was funny that I saw each of these planes at their owner's main hubs, and that they are all 767's.
The new ones have offset logos, and I think it looks a lot better than the old straight sections... but I'll always prefer the stately blue and grey of the United livery. |
The one I saw I think was United's because UA was first. It looked like a 757.

I saw a Star Alliance plane at IAD several times... Has all the members painted on it, starting with U-A... I have no idea where it was headed (I think LONDON.)
NOW... When is U-A going to get around to repainting the plane that's serving as the PIP express? I can see it now: a cornacopia of many images representing the varied interested of the most special passengers on the PIP: Mileage Plus cards, Palm trees, Mai Tais, cigars, Swiss Chocolates, Mustard Pretzels, Hawaiian shirts, limos and of course, Images of Yaz & Eddie at the front nose of the plane! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
I too see a *A plane at UA gates @ ORD quite frequently.

I go past EWR frequently and have seen this plane quite a lot. I'm pretrty sure its a LH A340.

I've been on the SK one (a B767). Do I win? http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

The respective partners and the aircraft which is painted with the STAR alliance colours:
1. Air Canada - an A340-300 2. Lufthansa - an A340-200 3. Thai - an A300-600 4. United - a B767-300 5. Varig - a B747-300 (now out of service) 6. All Nippon Airways - a B767-300 7. Ansett - none 8. Air New Zealand - none The logo in front determines who that aircraft belongs to. |
It's gonna be real interesting to see what they do if the AC/CP deal with AA happens. They'll need to re-paint all of the Star planes to get rid of the Maple Leaf.
