Perspective on CC bonuses
 

I just moved and will be commuting every three weeks between RDU and Bermuda. I will often take extra segments on my flights, get a 500-mile minimum even for some 120-mile flights, and will get a 50% bonus on my flight miles as a gold elite.

For all that flying, I expect to get barely more miles from the flying than I will from a single credit card signup bonus for a card my wife just was approved for.

Just a little thought for those who are trying to think about how to run up big mileage balances - it's not from flying!

Unless you're trying to get elite status, in which case credit cards will do you little good in most cases. Mileage runs aren't about getting redeemable miles, they're about getting elite qualifying miles.

Indeed, the number of MRs that make sense for purely redeemable miles is very low at this point. I still account for the RDMs when doing and looking for MRs, but it simply isn't that much anymore.

Bonuses can definitely help you get miles. Your on track with your thought that the route your traveling wont rack up huge miles but over a year or two its still something decent.

This depends on your airline's FF program. Some have affiliated credit cards that do indeed provide status miles. DL/AmEx is a big example of this.
