Tax on no-shows?

Should you pay taxes on no-shows?

Question is regarding hotels. For flights its easier to have taxes refunded. Even FR does that, albeit with an admin fee.

VAT is normally the only major tax for hotel rooms and refund policy depends on whether the room is refundable. Just like domestic flights with FR. Every city has own tax policy with city taxes so there is no universal answer. However, city taxes at least in most EU countries are normally only a couple of euros a night, for most people it's not worth asking whether they are refundable...

Almost universally, the hotel will only charge taxes if it has to charge taxes. It's important for the hotel to follow the statutes correctly.
