Getting to Iceland with miles...?
 

Possible? And if so, how?

Iceland air has a mileage program. It flies from several North American cities.

Assume you mean from USA using alliance miles, though. Yes, it's not hard if you don't mind flying. Same miles, generally, as Europe. If you don't fly iceland air, you have to route through Europe. Star alliance flies from DUS and OSL maybe others. From Europe it is much easier. 40k RT in J.

Delta flies from JFK seasonally. I just flew it on an award last week. However, if you mean "now", it's too late as the last flight of the season was yesterday.

Any other routing from the US would be via Europe and still subject to seasonal restrictions. You can see who flies in on the Wikipedia page

Assuming you're flying from DFW, get to BOS (AA miles/Avios?) and fly Icelandair from there. It's a 5-hour economy flight, and depending on your travel dates, you can probably fly economy for about $600. The recent Icelandair promo for buying miles was remarkable because their miles were actually much more useful on Alaska Airlines for flights to Hawaii than they were for flights to Iceland. It's 50K points from the US to Iceland in economy. Unless you're cash poor, this is probably not a flight to spend miles on.

Even better, plan a trip to Europe on Icelandair and stopover in Iceland. Free stopover. Price to European cities is competitive, and the stop in Reykjavik breaks up an otherwise long flight.

Star Alliance (via Lufthansa, Austrian, SAS) can get you to KEF - not sure if year-round however - as will Oneworld (via AirBerlin).

So in addition to Delta mentioned above United, US Airways, AAdvantage, BA Avios etc can all be used to go to Iceland on FF miles.

I surprised no one has mentioned flying Iceland Air with Alaska Airlines miles? Couch is 50,000 miles or include a trip to Europe with a stopover in Iceland for 55,000 miles.

Keep in mind its common to see 40,000 mile signup bonuses on the BOA Alaska Airlines credit card.

Downside is if your DFW based you would need to get to DEN/SEA/IAD/Orlando/MSP or another Iceland Air departure airport. If AS flies to DFW most likely you would need to route back to SEA on AS then onwards.

Has anyone figured out a way to fly EU to USA with a stop in KEF one-way using miles? (Without paying rt mileage rates, that is.)
