Take a non-stop revenue flight NYC-PAR in Y/Y+ then fly back in F. LH are good to release F close in plus you get to use the wonderful FCT in FRA if you time your flights correctly (TS in Canada sells tickets as oneways for a reasonable price, though, but no miles) |

I'm not positive, but I think the big surcharges on BA are only for flights into LHR. So if you can fly AA into LHR, I think you can return on BA and the fees won't be too bad. You'd have to check though.
