I just called Thank You customer service and the representative read the original press release verbatim (indicating that members may use the Thank You Travel Center with no blackout dates, etc.).

It looks like they've made a point of instructing (some) representatives to read the script and deny any knowledge of the upcoming ability to transfer points.

When asked about what transfer partners will be included, I was surprised to hear American Airlines being mentioned in addition to BA and SQ. Fingers crossed that AA really becomes a transfer partner. I will believe it when it actually happens.
If indeed this rumor turns out to be true... I just wish they could have done this prior to Dec 1st, 2011, then my quest to LT PLT would have been complete... But I digress these kinds of comments will become meaningless as we move further and further away from that ominous date.

Interesting development.

Maybe that is why the BA, SQ rollout has not happened yet?

I guess we will have to wait and see.

That's great news!! AA is way more valuable the BA. Hope it's true.

I'm not sure how much credence I give these rumors at this point, but even if the only transfer partners they had were AA and SQ, that would probably put TYPs ahead of MR points and competitive with UR points in my book.

I do worry about devaluation of AA miles, but I wonder, how many people take advantage of the airline transfer option with MR and UR? It seems like most non-FT people I hear from just use their points for gift cards.

Please do a little legwork of your own on Citi's website...you'll find there are a plethora of TYP card options.

There are many TYP cards but it seems the transfer benefit would only be available (if at all) to the Premier and Prestige cards. However all the TYPs earned by different cards go to one single TYP account.

If this is true then TYP are going to become a lot more valuable then they were before.

So like Chase UR if you have an account with miles transfer ability, you can transfer all your TYP from all cards?

We dont know anything because as of now, there is nothing announced by Citi.

One thing it is for sure, TYPs are commingle in one's account versus UR has only one single lump regardless where the points coming from.

In one's TYP account - all the points are CLEARLY marked from which card it is earned, and their expiration date before Citi re-structure the program in March 2011. I literally have TYPs expiration ranging from Apr 2013 to sometime in 2016, depending on which card those points are coming from.

Also, if the "Sponsor" card is canceled or converted to another card even though that another card is also a TYP card, the TYPs earned from the original card is gone, regardless you still have other TYP cards in your account. This condition is clearly spelled out in the T&C of each and every TYP card. I believe in practice Citi gives you a 30 days grace period to use those TYPs up though I dont have any actual experience.

At redemption, the TYPs are being redeemed based on the sequence of their expiration dates.

When Chase Saphire Preferred UR points became transferable to United MPs, it didn't really devalue United miles. Hopefully, the same works for Thank You points to AA miles.

it really shouldn't be that big of a hit - it's not like there have been TYP deals where it was 100k points with a card sign up. i don't know if anyone remembers the first amex plat ty cards that came out in 2007/2008 with 5 points / dollar earned over 2 years...that was a good card.
