From the Spirit Airlines 'Free Spirit' website FAQ.

"Can my FREE SPIRIT miles expire?

"Yes they can, but don't worry - they don't have to.

"As long as you earn any miles within the previous three months, your miles won't expire. If you don't meet that requirement though, any miles older than three months will expire.

"The easiest way to earn miles and keep them from expiring is to get our FREE SPIRIT™ MasterCard® and make at least one purchase per month.

"You can also earn more miles by flying on us or using one of our many partners."

Awfully short life-cycle.

Well, they are free, but then I never used my free 5k before they expired.

I think 5000 is enough for a LAS-LAX flight.

No Spirit out of RDU (though I thought there was), and all my other travel is already book for the next 3 months. So transfer would be the only actual value it could bring me. Oh well

This is awesome! Now I'll get to fly an airline that will probably be the first one to charge passengers to flush the toilet.

Goddamn the pusherman.

That's great. But the flights really aren't free given that they charge for almost anything.

They're smarter than that. Flushing is always optional. They'll charge you to open it.

Can't transfer to other programs and can't transfer to other members. This is just rough. I was hoping that maybe we could pool together and get a few FT members some awesome flights.

I regret signing up now. I'm sure they're going to spam my e-mail like crazy.

You really should get a spam email; it takes all of 25 seconds to register for a new email account, and it'll make your main inbox so much cleaner with regards to junk, "graymail", etc.

I have about 3 spam emails. For any hotel/airline programs which I don't regularly use, and have only signed up for specific reasons (e.g. checking inventory), I use these emails, too.

Does anyone here have experience redeeming points on spirit? I signed up for the free 5000, and I'd be curious to try out a roundtrip flight (2,500 each way in one zone). How much, altogether, with additional fees, etc. should one expect to pay (assuming availability) on such a flight with 1 carry on?
