Where to count Mileage now?
 

One of the great things easysabre did was the ability to roughly count mileage between cities. Does anyone know of any site that can do this?

The Continental version, Mileage Calculator offers distances for their markets only. It is user friendly and simply requires city pairs (even allowing one connection) with no need to "create" an actual reservation! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The trouble with Expedia and with the indo.com site is that they are not complete (i.e. a lot of airports, including some capital cities, e.g. Yaounde, Cameroon) are not in their listings. Expedia is a problem as it is a ways in. Travelocity has a fairly easy way to find mileage. Search for the flights by schedule and click on the more info button by the flight number you are interested in -- gives flight time and mileage.

ITN is now the best available on-line for getting the most info though, as it gives fare classes available in expert mode.

Or, if you really want to go out of your way, you can just call the airline

Thanks ! The indo.com site is actually the best though I just realised that it does not recognise airline airport computer codes!

The Continental Airlines site is useful only if Continental flies the route. It cannot even determine where Kuala Lumpur is!

I like the site AA Geek posted for domestic travel-air or ground.

Thanks for the itn site, exactly the info I need.

While, the distances for the /www.indo.com/distance / seem correct, when you click on the show map, it draws the towns in some very odd positions.

For example hobart, aust. (HBA) is drawn in the middle of the sea!

I checked it twice, but it may have been my luck that it was playing up, still it made me laugh.

I like indo.com/distance, but keep in mind that it's approximate. It seems to do a city-to-city calculation, whereas airlines use airport-to-airport figures. For instance, it gives one figure for Boston to London, but AA (perhaps others; it's the only carrier I've taken from here to both) gives different mileage credit for flying into Heathrow and Gatwick.

Use it for planning, but if it tells you that you'll have 79,996 or 80,005 miles toward that 80,000-mile award, call your airline.

Now. I say this is first edition because we are adding over the next week or two, multiple airports so that you can really configure trips through hubs (unlike Continental's, we feature all airports, not just a particular airline) and we are going to configure it so that based on which elite program you select in the interface, we'll show you actual miles plus your elite bonus miles and a total of them all. Also, it will eventually show you minimal miles based on airline selection.... So, please remember, this is just the start, we've got more goodies planned....

Thanks nice layout and easy to use, BUT some of the distances are way off, For example CHC to WLG which has an actual distance of 606km, comes up as 9480km - Now if only AirNz would give me those points (9480 and even more for J!) for popping up north for the weekend I would be a very happy flyer indeed!

You caught something which we'll fix right away. We're integrating data from IATA and there's still some latitude/longitude cities that aren't connected yet. I think we have 2,200 of them mapped so far.....on the way to around 3,100 cities totally mapped. Glad you say that the layout is nice and it's easy to use. I think you'll really like the next several improvements, especially the elite bonus fields......
