Name change - repeat cards?

Has anyone had any experience with how a name change effects credit card applications? My wife still has not changed her last name and is planning on doing it this summer when we have more time. Would her changing her name not be caught by credit card companies when applying?

For example, if she just got approved for the united card and got the pts, if she canceled the united card and reapplied under her new last name what are the chances of the pts posting to the same Mileage Plus account?

Thanks for your input.

There's a reason why they ask for your SSN ... that's how all of this is tracked.

It's tracked by SSN, not name, like PP mentioned. She will not get the points again.

If anything, the name change sometimes slows the applications. I changed my name last year. My husband's apps get approved automatically and mine always go through a few days considerations even though I have a higher FICO and lower credit utilization. When I call they tell me they can't figure out what the hold up is and approve on the phone. I highly suspect the multiple names on my credit report raises a flag that won't let the system auto-approve.
