Cathay asiamile @ .8 cents per mile? Would this work?

Update: 12/5/2011
Ok Folks, I'm new at this, so be nice if this is just one crazy idea that's not workable... but what do you guys think?

Right now Cathay's Asiamiles eShopping mall is offering extra bonus miles base on a spin of the wheel promo for the X-mas season. So I got the 5X mile spin. That means if you normally get 5 miles per dollar , now it's 25 miles per dollar. So lets to a little crazy math.

The highest paying vendor that actually sells anything one might need is "ink + toner.com" they are giving 12.5 miles per dollar.
So let's say I buy $1000 of toner and inks. That would be 12500 normal miles X 5 = 62500 mile total.

Now lets say I turn around and re-sell those toners on ebay at 50% of what I paid for them (they are actually selling on ebay for about the same price as what I would pay, so a 50% lost is not likely). That's would mean I just paid $500 for 62500 asiamiles. Which comes to 0.8 cents per mile. Has anyone looked into this and would it actually work?

Edit:
Ok Just read the terms and conditions: Max bonus one can earn is 30000 miles.
So the math works out to $480 of toner and inks (sell it on ebay @ 50% get back 240), $240 for 30000 miles is still .8 cents per mile... Right?

Update:

I got 9X on the spin
Since I just bought a color laser printer and needed toners anyway. I spent $272 on the the site (normally 12.5 miles per dollar with 9X it comes to 112.5 miles per dollar), followed instructions step by step, 1) Register for the promo with my Asia miles#, 2) spin (9x), 3) Shop by clicking on the link from ishop site, 4) post spin results on facebook.
Now I'm just going to sit back wait for the toners to show and my 30000 miles.
I hope this is not one of those AA eshopping deal where no one got the miles they thought they were getting.

$480 = 48,000 cents & max 30,000 miles --> 48k/30k = 1.6 cents/mile

but i get 240 back buy selling the inks on ebay

I sell the inks on ebay, even @ 50% lost (which is worst case) that means i only spent $240..
$240 for 30000 mile = .008 per mile.

Tempted to give this a shot as well...

Looks like you can sign up multiple times to try for a better score. Initially got 5x, then 8x. Rolled 8x the last few times I tried.

Did it twice, once 5x second time 9x.

Note it says a total of 8 million miles are going to be given out, expires Jan. 8 if not sooner.

I'm really tempted to try to get the 30k miles....

EDIT: Skype UK is 30 miles per USD spent on new accounts. So for 30k miles thats 30,000/(30*9)=$111 just to buy the miles outright. Hmmm, it's listed as Skype (UK) but I'm not sure if I sign up for a new US account will that work for credit?

I have no idea about their FFP though, are 30k miles useful?

I'm very tempted to do the skype account. It only applies to new accounts though. I do use skype and mostly for skype out (from my iPhone to call friends in other countries over Wifi), so I don't care too much if my username changes.

Thats 270 miles per dollar or 0.37 cents per mile, plus you get the face value of the credit... hmmmm.

They are part of one world, so should be good on AA, BA flights.

40,000 miles for USA-HKG. Don't know about their fees though... I just use the site to get CX availability for my AA miles.

Looks like their miles aren't that valuable on partners. For example, a 601-1200 mile flight costs 15K miles one-way! That means relatively short domestic routes are 30K round-trip.

Just calculated SFO-JFK round-trip and it's 45K miles.

I wouldn't bite.

I don't know this does look pretty tempting. Dalian China to Hong Kong 30k. Dalian to Tokyo 20k. Comes out to $200 and $133 respectively for me and getting UK skype credit. Do their miles expire at this airline?

I'm very tempted though, as I'll use the Skype credit anyways. The only hassle is creating a new account and having to update my address book, but I don't use Skype for chatting (except for 2-3 people) so I don't mind changing my username.

I'm only apprehensive because when I click add skype credit you can only do it in $10 charges, so I would have to do 11 separate $10 charges and I'm not sure they would all qualify.
