Best Frequent Flier Programme
 

I don't fly a specific airline, and I want to join a program. Which one is the best to join? I travel int'l often (to South America), and in the US along the East Coast mainly.

American Airlines' AAdvantage or Delta's SkyMiles, in my opinion.

I don't know what the other FT members have to say.

This probably isn't the right topic for Mileage Run discussion, but I throw in my $0.02 before this gets moved.

First of all, every program is free to join, so I assume you mean which program should you begin using exclusively. If you travel on an airline, you should absolutely sign up for their frequent flyer program, because, as I said, it is free.

It typically depends on where you live, where you travel, and what you classify as "good" - i.e. what perks interest you the most.

Typically, if you live in a hub city, you should go with that hub if you'll be doing frequent travel. If you do not live in a hub city, then you have some more leeway. All the carriers will have service to S.A., but you could do some price comparisons, to see which has the best prices.

The key factors anyone will need to offer up any helpful advice will be:

1. Where do you live?
2. What perks interest you about a frequent flyer program?

This question is impossible to answer without more details about you, where you live, your travel habits, your favoured airlines (just because you don't stick to one doesn't mean you don't like one in particular) and what is important to you from the FFP. From the extremely limited information you gave us, a Oneworld programme (either AA or LA) seems likely to be suitable for you, since AA covers pretty much all of the regions you described and LA is huge in South America.

You need to find the Alliance that best suits you and then sign up for one of the Air Lines in that Alliance. But like some one said if you fly on another Alliance sign up for a FF program, it's free. In todays world you have to look at Alliances more than a single Airlines. Good luck. :)

If you sign up for Alaska Airlines frequent flyer program, you can earn miles on American, British Airways, Delta, LAN, Air France, Air Pacific, Cathay Pacific, Icelandair, KLM, Korean, PenAir, or Quantas, and you can redeem on any of the above. Then you don't have to choose between Delta or American, you can do both, and LAN has good coverage in South America.

It might be harder to earn and use status though, as only the higher status levels give reciprocal benefits with Delta, and a reciprocal agreement with American is still being worked out.

We need more information. Where exactly are you based, what are your priorities that status will give you (miles, upgrades, premium cabin award travel, etc.).

Wow! Delta SkyPESO? You must be joking.

SkyPESO is the worst of all. Limited Seats, no one-way booking, and you never get the lowest cost fare (it's only for advertisement purpose) even 10 months out for International travel.

And any date change will incur the MAXIMUM cost among all airlines, like USD$150. American Air, Continental etc does not charge 1 cent for date changes.

Stay away from Delta. At all cost.

Well, I was able to book r/t biz class tix on AF ATL-CDG-MUC for the absolute minimum number of DL miles required.....

However, it basically turned into a life and death struggle in order to do so....

But the other good news is I've almost fully recuperated.....

Don't join Delta! American or Continental should work good for you.
