transfer points from chase to AA

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie here, and was wondering if some of the more experienced people can provide some guidance here.

First off, I have about 60K AA miles, and 50K chase points (through sapphire preferred). I dont see an option to transfer points from chase to AA directly, so is this possible at all?

Also, what are the best times to redeem miles for biz class tickets through AA? (i.e. when is their off peak season).

Thanks!

Welcome to FT! Where do you want to travel? Demand for seats varies widely depending on route. (The Caribbean is very popular in the winter; Europe is very popular in the summer.)

There is no direct transfer from Chase to AA. You can transfer from Chase to BA, and redeem BA miles for travel on AA. But unless you're traveling wholly within the Americas, BA will assess very high fuel surcharges on your award redemptions.

And BA may change the term in mid Dec, so watch out and wait until what are they going to change.

Welcome to FT! Here's a link to the charts: http://www.aa.com/i18n/disclaimers/f...ward-chart.jsp
Peak seasons vary by destination.

The only "currency" you can transfer to AA on a 1:1 ratio is SPG points (they will also give you a 5,000 mile bonus when you transfer 20,000 SPG points to AA miles). Off peak discounts only apply to coach seats to Europe, Central and South America, and Hawaii; off peak periods may vary by destination.

You could redeem a one way business class reward on AA, and a return one way ticket using Ultimate Rewards points transferred to Continental/United, BA, or Korean.

Thanks for your responses!

I'm looking to travel to Abu Dhabi/Dubai, and I know that AA and Etihad have a code-share in place.

I wish there was a way for me to merge my miles and points between AA, Etihad and Chase!

A codeshare for revenue tickets does not necessarily mean that miles can be redeemed for travel on that partner. AA.com shows that AAdvantage miles can be earned on flights operated by Etihad, but there is no redemption chart. I suggest you verify that what you want to do is possible before preceding further.

Etihad is not a redemption partner as far as I know. It might eventually become one but you cannot count on that.

RJ (Royal Jordanian) is One World partner and AA miles can be used to redeem RJ flights.

There is no practical way to combine your miles / points scattering among the 3 programs you mentioned.

You could transfer Chase Ultimate Reward points to Hyatt, and from Hyatt to AA, but you'd lose half your points/miles. Much better to keep them with Chase and transfer to either British Airways, Continental, or Korean Air at a 1:1 ratio.
