Only apply if you have a targeted letter. They are no longer manually applying the bonus ids.

Like the OP I'm wondering what people think my next move should be. Here's where I stand (x2 meaning my wife and I both have the card):

UMP Visa; 125k UMP miles
Amex Plat x2; 200k MR points between us.
Chase Sapphire x2; 100k UR points between us.

I'm thinking the AA 75k cards are the way to go but am curious if there's a reason to do something else instead?

We travel to Asia semi-regularly (every couple of years or so), somewhere else internationally about once every 10-12 months, and domestically a handful of times per year. Upcoming trips in 2012 so far are Texas, Seattle, possibly Hawaii, and India; maybe Paris or London. We travel from the NYC area.

I think the AA cards is the way to go, especially because you travel a lot.

Get 2x more with the Biz cards. As others have mentioned, Sapphire Preferred is still strong at 50k, and I use it for all dining purchases. No foreign transaction fees is a nice bonus when I go overseas. Unlike a lot of other offers, this one is a potential keeper.

60k public, 80k targeted - Priority Club VISA with no foreign transaction fees. $49/yearly but you get a free hotel night every year on your anniversary = best foreign transaction card I can find. 49/yr with the free night off setting your annual fee. 10% redemption rebate also. 5 points per $ spent @ IHG Properties.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case...

I was burned. I called and was told I was eligible; while I was on hold, the agent I was speaking with was actually told that I wasn't, in fact, eligible. After meeting the spending today, I called and discovered this ugly fact.

Amex CSR was unwilling to give me the slightest gesture of goodwill even after acknowledging the agent I spoke with in August "lied" (a supervisor's word choice).

My advice: wait until 1/1/12 and hope the Southwest 50K offer is still good. Get a personal one and a business one for yourself that day.

100K Southwest points bonus (assuming still offered). Put another 10K on as fast as you can to get to 110K and you will have about $1800 worth of Southwest credit and a Companion Pass to take your wife along for free on all flights, paid or free, for 2 years.

Then 1/1/14 have her do the same (assuming...).
