Rewards Programmes Advice

Dear all,

In the past year I've taken quite a few international, long haul flights on various airlines to and from various countries.

I'm 19 and while I only had AAdvantage before, I think it would be a good idea to try and claim for as many of these miles as I can, ideally on an airline network that flies between Boston and London (all of them I think).

I seek advice on which airline rewards programmes would be most useful for me to join, giving the airlines I've flown recently.

On a related topic, is it even possible to claim for miles flown on airlines before you were a member of their frequent flyer programme? What's the best way to go about this?

The flights (still have boarding pass stubs)-

Kenya Airways X1
KLM X2
South African Airways X3
Aerolineas Argentinas x3
Delta X2
Qantas X2
Thai Airways X1
Kingfisher X2
Virgin Atlantic X2
(possibly useless but also 4 TAM Brasil domestic flights)

Thanks for any help!

when the ff programs started, i would sign up for the plan if i flew the airline....i suggest you do this.....

you have the boarding passes for your prior flights, so you could ask for credit, however, the rules generally are you have to be a member of the program when the flight occurs.....some will let you sign up on board the flight & grt credit for it....

there are alliances of ff programs....if you look at an airline web site, it will show partner carriers which when flown, the ff mi can be credited to their program....the aa site will list ib, ba, etc.....be careful, because cheap fares often get reduced or no mi from a partner....

good luck...

It is hard to tell what program would be most beneficial to you because you have not given the criteria you look for in a program and you give two different cities. This thread here, Choosing a *A frequent flyer program that has a good form for setting out your criteria.

1) What is your home airport? (SFO, LAX, MCO, etc.)
(2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? (C, F, Y, etc.)
(3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? (<25K, 25k-50k, >50k)
(4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? (UA Premier, M&M Senator etc)
(5) What is most important to you in a FFP? (Frequent upgrades on travel, priority services when flying the airline, good award redemption rates, free lounge access, etc.)
(6) Which routes do you fly most often (US Domestic, Transpacific etc)
(7) Preferred Airlines
(8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? (Can you chooose your airlines, class of service?)
As for getting credit for already completed flights the previous posts have it down, you are unlikely to get credit for them if you were not a member of the reward program at the time of travel.

Instead of looking at which ff program is the best why not just find which airline is the best for the routes that you fly.

Which airline(s) do you enjoy flying the best.

(MY favorite is Lufthansa for my routes. I even sometimes go out of the way to book them)
